Stress is an energy state. While stress can be a positive motivator, negative stress can be very harmful to your psyche. It's necessary to take stress reduction measures to promote a better quality of your life.
We get ourselves into a state of stress, mainly through our thought processes. Our thoughts directly affect our feelings, so if our thoughts are negative, we are likely to cause feelings of anxiety, fear, worry, and distress.
How can you interpret the things that happen outside of you in a way that avoids stress?
I want to invite you to take stock of your thoughts today.
By listening to your thoughts and externalizing them, you can minimize negative self-talk and start your journey towards stress reduction.

Adapting to changes in your business is a bit like flying a plane at night. While you're still fundamentally doing the same thing as you would when flying during daylight, the fact that the indicators in the environment and the variables have changed means you need to adapt or risk crashing!
It's the same in a business context too. For example, selling to a large company isn't the same as selling to a small company. Sure, both require sales skills, but if you were to treat larger companies in the same way as small companies and not account for the differences in the sales cycle and the additional decision-makers or red tape involved, then the chances are, you won't make the sale.
Or, another example might be if you're opening a second location and you're spending more time in the new site than your original site. Your decision-making and leadership style needs to adapt. You can no longer make decisions based on seeing or hearing things firsthand. Unless you can adjust and learn to rely on your executive team, you run the risk of making misinformed decisions. Sure, the business still operates the same, but the way you engage and operate needs to adjust.
Adapting to changes can be difficult, but it's important that you anticipate what's coming and what adjustments you might be make further down the line. If you need help with that please get in touch and I'd be happy to assist.

Many entrepreneurs stumble when customers challenge their price because they don’t have the tools for overcoming objections. In this video, recorded on the shores of Lake Ontario, I share five secrets of closing the sale that will help you handle any resistance to your price.
The first secret is to stop discounting. This is a common sales mistake, and it makes sense. If a customer thinks your price is too high, it’s tempting to want to lower the price in the hopes that it will entice the customer. However, really all it’s doing is sending the signal that you’re worth less than you really are.
The second secret is to offer a guarantee. If you have a written guarantee that lists all of the things that will and will not happen as a result of working with you, it will greatly ease the fears of your customers and help with overcoming objections.
The third of the secrets of closing the sale is to focus on your uniqueness. It’s important that your selling propositions help you stand out from the competition.
Fourth, are you working with clients who fit into your target market? It’s important to focus on your target market because these are the people who can pay the price you want and who will tell their friends about what you do.
Last, have confidence. You need to exude enough authority in sales situations so that your customers want to buy from you.
With these five secrets of closing the sale, you’ll be able to start overcoming objections to price without having to undervalue your product or service. Remember what your true worth is and sell with confidence!

As a business owner, do you ever feel like it's lonely at the top? Many business owners do, but don't always know how to handle the stress that comes with business ownership. Especially these days.
That's why I reached out to interview my colleague and Registered Psychotherapist Brian Janes about mental health for business owners. In our interview, Brian shares several practical strategies that business owners can use to deal with bad days, high expectations, and not having someone to connect with.
He shares many of the common challenges he sees in business owners, and calls out the isolation and avoidance they experience when they feel like they’re falling short of their own expectations for themselves.
I know you'll take away some great value from Brian's insights. If you identify with anything we’re discussing, we encourage you to take one small step to reach out to someone you trust or connect with a mental health professional.
You don't have to go it alone, and it doesn't have to be lonely at the top!

I recently re-read the book American Icon. It's the story of how Alan Mulally, the former Boeing executive, was brought into Ford Motor Company back in the mid 2000s as CEO, to help turn around the ailing automaker.
Alan did many things incredibly well during the turnaround, and there is one leadership strategy he implemented that really stands out for its simplicity, effectiveness and ability to align a team.
It's a strategy that you can use to make growing your business easier.

The key to proactive leadership is learning how to problem solve effectively. Think of all of those problems that arise in your business as bugs. What happens with many business owners is that they spend so much of their time swatting and scratching that they don’t take the time to apply “bug spray.”
That is, most people don’t take the time to solve the underlying issues that cause most of their problems. If you want to be more productive as a leader, you’re going to have to be intentional about addressing your organization’s challenges.
One method for cultivating this kind of proactive leadership, is to block out a section of time each week. Use this time for figuring out how to problem solve the main challenges that you face.
For example, let’s say you’re having issues with service delivery to your client. The same issues come up again and again and are causing complaint areas. Ask yourself what could be leading to the problems. Have you not trained your team well enough? Is there a process issue? Is there a missing checklist?
By working through each problem methodically, you can eliminate the biggest threats to your organization and free up more of your time to focus on important tasks.
If you want to truly learn how to problem solve, you have to be able to work on the underlying factors that give rise to recurring challenges. By adopting a proactive leadership approach, you can stamp out costly issues before they drain your resources.
