It is only recently that this mystery was resolved and Eve could begin her journey to peace. Now Jim Doane wants the same kind of answers that Eve always longed for. His 25-year-old son may or may not be dead, and he has only burned skull fragments as possible evidence. But he cannot go to the police for answers without risking his own secrets and exposing his dark past, so instead he chooses a bold step to find the truth - a truth that takes Eve down a twisted path of madness and evil and into the darkest heart of her own history. Doane needs Eve Duncans skills and hell do anything to get them.
Even if it means taking Eve.

I was so excited to start this trilogy and was hugely disappointed right off the bat
Taking Eve is the First Iris Johansen book that I've read. I was so excited to start this trilogy and was hugely disappointed right off the bat. The writing in this book is terrible! There are no back stories on any of the characters, it simply jumps into everyone being completely overly obsessed with Eve, and I don't get it. The obsession is over the top and completely bizarre, I don't know how the author thought that this would be relate-able to their readers.
The overly descriptive writing is so distracting, that it takes away from the story. Even with the descriptive writing, I can't for the life of me picture any of the characters in my head (lack of story building) - which is a complete first when reading a book. I also don't like the fact that every character in the book refers to one another by first and last name, this is not how people refer to each other in real life.
I started the 2nd book and am trying to read it as fast as possible just to be done with it (I don't like starting an not finishing a story). However, after reading other reviews, I've learned that there will be 3 more books after this series, and I can't handle that so I might just call it quits. This book is a lot of fluff, not much action and completely bizarre. I'm not sure how this book even made it past the publisher.
I was desperate for something to read......
I have read all the Iris Johansen and Eve Duncan books. Recipe for an Iris Johansen trilogy: Take one story that wouldn't even fill one book. Add a whole bunch of drivel that you used in all your other books. Take a couple of characters that you've already written and give them new names (I mean, really, how many of her female characters are going to be not really beautiful but so intelligent and intense that they just captivate all the men). Throw in another killer who needs Eve to sculpt their dead loved one. Stir in all the old characters you've left behind for years, and stretch a bad story into 3 books to sell.
I don't know why I keep reading these. I get annoyed every time and find myself skipping page after page of the same old crap. I feel like I'm reading the unrealistic writings of a 16 year old girl. And, what grown he-man uses terms like "red herring" and reconnoiter? A military guy might talk about doing recon, but never in all my years have I heard a guy talk about reconnoitering.
