If you missed our Season 2 Summer of 1993 Trilogy, what are you waiting for!? Go listen to all 3 Episodes! :)
If you have listened to the Trilogy, and can't help but want more, this is the episode for you!
What if the IN YOUR HOUSE pay-per-views started in the Summer of 1993? How could the story have evolved, after Hogan won the world title for a 5th time at Wrestlemania 9? In our eyes, this time could have been used to grow the character and storyline of WWF's upcoming Superstar: Lex Luger. How could the WWF enhance the scenario that they found himself in, by adding a 2-hour special In Your House event in the middle of everything? Would Luger still take the reigns as Mister USA? Join the Matt's as we do what we do!
No Deep Dive this time! Instead, join the Matt's as we give you another "commuter special" shorter episode, where we explore Superstars of the past that never received a title run. Who was a well-established Superstar from the Golden Era that surprisingly never had a championship around their waist? Who comes to YOUR mind? Were they deserving? How could it have happened? This is our first of hopefully many casts where we challenge each other to Book a Title Run for one of our faves, by RE-Booking some events of the past. This is what we LOVE, and we hope you enjoy!
We invite you to join us, for this long-awaited episode. The professional wrestling career of Scott Hall was memorable to say the least. From humble beginnings in WCW, to the WWE pushing him to super-stardom, Razor Ramon will be a name that goes down in the history books as one of the greatest wrestlers ever. In this career retrospective, we focus on all things "good" that "The Bad Guy" brought to the world of sports entertainment. While we understand that his life outside the squared circle was rough to say the least, that is not our focus. So please enjoy this podcast, as we celebrate a career lived on the Razor's Edge!
1993 was nearing an end. Hulk Hogan was gone. Business was down. Attendance was struggling. Jerry Lawler was in legal trouble. The Steroid trial date was official. How could Vince McMahon overcome all of this downturn? How about bringing back the Thanksgiving Eve tradition?! The 4-on-4 Elimination tag-match Pay-Per-View was set to be the Feel-Good event of the year! But did it live to expectations? Did the outside events of the time overshadow and negatively effect what would happen in the ring? Did the fans get what they wanted? Did it all makes sense? The Matt's are here to review, resolve, and rebook it all!
It took us a long time to get here... but the Matt's are FINALLY diving into what was The Nature Boy Ric Flair's first WWF run, in 1991! Flair entered the World Wrestling Federation just as a major shift started to occur. The "Real World's Champion" made an impact with a new audience right away, that was ready to something different. But were the plans for Flair not what was hoped for? Did they change? Did things culminate too quickly for the 16-time World Champ? Find out, and take a listen, and we explore Ric Flair's iconic entrance, into a different world of sports entertainment!
The Matt's are back, and it's the Episode you've been waiting for! It's all about The ULTIMATE WARRIOR! BUT... it may not be the career retrospective you might expect. Take a listen, and leave us feedback, as we discuss the "parts unknown" time period of the Ultimate Warrior's career, where it all fell apart. Did the Warrior really achieve victory at Wrestlemania 7? We believe that the WWF could have added so much more to the Legend of the Warrior, and we are out to prove it!
It's the Season 3 Opener of TAKING IT TO THE MATTS! And we went ALL IN for this one. IT'S WRESTLEMANIA 7! And it's quite possibly the deepest dive that we've ever done!
A true change in the business was taking place, and only the genius's behind the scenes knew about it. Take this journey with us, as we explore one of the largest Wrestlemania cards in history, and listen as we unpack the story behind the venue, the double-main event, each of the other 13 matches, the world conflict that was going on, and what is all meant! Thank you so much for your support!
In the 1980's and 90's, Hulkamania truly ran wild, and that's what the Matts do in this Season 2 Finale! We take an Immortal Dive into the professional career Hulk Hogan - what made the Red and Yellow so iconic and popular? How did it last for so long? Did Hogan always have the best interest of the business in mind? Is the Hulkster on YOUR Pro Wrestling Mount Rushmore? Thank you all for listening to our 2nd Season of Taking It To The Matts, and please let us know what you think - about Hogan, and about our podcast - on Instagram! #taking_it_to_the_matts
