Publisher's Summary:
Morgan Cooper has always found it difficult to balance her home life - mother of two young children and wife of a workaholic civil rights lawyer - with her work life as an undercover CIA officer.
When Morgan gets stressed, anxious, or scared, whether at home or in the field, she tends to talk to herself until she can clear her head. This habit, though, puts her life in danger during an assignment in the strife-torn Gaza Strip.
After leaving home posing as a diplomat, Morgan meets her contact, Abdel Nasser, and the two begin monitoring the warring Fatah and Hamas factions. On the Strip, the betrayals and contradictions of her personal and working lives catch up with her. Soon, Morgan and Nasser are kidnapped by an extremist organization with links to al-Qaeda.
When Adam, Morgan's husband, receives word of her kidnapping, he is assured by Morgan's bosses at the CIA that the organization is doing everything they can to find his wife. When days pass with no developments or new information, Adam decides to look for Morgan on his own.
Inspired by actual events, Taking Morgan is a gripping novel of political intrigue and suspense. It is also the deeply affecting story of a modern couple struggling with their marriage, suddenly at risk of losing each other forever.

Taking Morgan is an intellectual political thriller. The plot is based on actual events and it keeps one engrossed. WARNING: Subtlety and complexity are in play here and some of the smaller details are written by someone with a good familiarity of spy-craft.
But what is memorizing is the human angle, how the personhood of the characters is effected by the extraordinary events they are subjected to in strife torn Gaza. From some of the banalities of everyday life to the extraordinary moments captured in the closing pages the main players (already engaged in very high minded stuff in the world of national security) are real and compelling. The plot may seem linear, but it is a necessary evil offset as it is artfully interwoven among the protagonist's viewpoints.
Clear good guys and clear bad guys are there, but in short supply, which is perhaps it's best touch of realism for such a sensational plot.
Realism and intrigue combine to form the single best spy novel set in the Middle East
David Rose takes you into the tumultuous Middle East of today in this gripping spy tale. Unlike other spy novels, the realism here is compelling. The setting and characters are so real that the lines become blurred between the story and the reality of today's Middle East. The story is spared the need to lay out the fictional world it is set in. Mesmerized by Morgan's story I simply could not put the book down. If you are fascinated by covert operations, the frightening complexity of the Islamic world, or the strength of human resolve Taking Morgan will reward your interest.
Makes terrorism personal to the heroine.
I had the privilege of reading this book before it came to the US. At the time, I had limited understanding of Gaza and the turmoil that existed there. The characters helped me to appreciate the extraordinary danger of the area.
