section 4 of lullaby land songs of childhood by eugene field this librivox recording is in the public domain hi spy strange that the city thoroughfare noisy and bustling all the day should with the night renounce its care and lend itself to children's play oh girls or girls and boys are boys and have been so since abel's birth and shall be so till dolls and toys are with the children swept from earth the selfsame sport that crowns the day of many assyrian shepherds son beguiles the little lads at play by night in stately babylon i hear their voices in the street yet tis so different now from then come brother from your winding sheet and let us to be boys again

little boy blue the little toy dog is covered with dust but sturdy and staunchy stands and the little toy soldier is red with rust and the musket molds in his hands time was when the little toy dog was new and the soldier was passing fair and that was the time when our little boy blew kissed them and put them there now don't you go till i come he said and don't you make any noise so toddling off to his trundle bed he dreamt of the pretty toys and as he was streaming an angel's song awakened our little boy blue oh the years are many the years are long but the little toy friends are true i faithful to little boy blue they stand each in the same old place awaiting the touch of a little hand the smile of a little face and they wonder as waiting the long years through in the dust of that little chair what has become of our little boy blue since he kissed them and put them there hi ho my dearie a moon beam floateth from the skies whispering hi ho my dearie i would spin a web before your eyes a beautiful web of silver light wherein is many a wondrous sight of a radiant garden leagues away where the softly tinkling lilies sway and the snow white lampkins are at play hi ho my dearie a brownie stealeth from the vine singing hi ho my dearie and will you hear this song of mine a song of the land of merck and mist where biddeth the bud the dew hath kissed then let the moonbeam's web of light be spun before thee silvery white and i shall sing the live long night hi ho my deary the night when speedeth from the sea murmuring hi ho my dearie i bring a mariner's prayer for thee so let the moon be veil thine eyes and the brownies sing thee lullabies but i shall rock thee to and fro kissing the brow he loveth so and the prayer shall guard thy bed i trow hi ho my deary

fairy and child oh listen little dear my soul to the fairy voices calling for the moon is high in the misty sky and the honeydew is falling to the midnight feast in the clover bloom the blue bells are a ringing and it's come away to the land of fae that the kitty did is singing o slumber little dear my soul and hand in hand will wander hand in hand to the beautiful land of below away off yonder or will sail along in a lily leaf into the white moon's halo over the stream of mist and dream into the land of below or you shall have two beautiful wings to gossamer wings and airy and all the while shall the old moon smile and think you a little fairy and you shall dance in the velvet sky and the silvery stars shall twinkle and dream sweet dreams as over their beams your footballs softly tinkle

child and mother o mother my love if you'll give me your hand and go where i ask you to wander i will lead you away to a beautiful land the dreamland that's waiting out yonder we'll walk in a sweet posie garden out there where moonlight and starlight are streaming and the flowers and the birds are filling the air with the fragrance of music of dreaming there'll be no little tired out boy to undress no questions or cares to perplex you there'll be no little bruises or bumps to caress nor patching of stockings to vex you for i'll rock you away on a silver tooth stream and sing you asleep when you're weary...

section three of lullaby land songs of childhood by eugene field this librivox recording is in the public domain the sugarplum tree have you ever heard of the sugarplum tree tis a marvel of great renown it blooms on the shore of the lollipop sea in the garden of shut i town the fruit that it bears is so wondrously sweet as those who have tasted it say that good little children have only to eat of that fruit to be happy next day when you've got to the tree you would have a hard time to capture the fruit which i sing the tree is so tall that no person could climb to the boughs where the sugar plums swing but up in that tree sits a chocolate cat and a gingerbread dog prowls below and this is the way you contrive to get at those sugar plums tempting you so you say but the word to the gingerbread dog and he barks with such terrible zest that the chocolate cat is at once all agog as her swelling proportions a test and the chocolate cat goes cavorting around from this leafy limb onto that and the sugar plums tumble of course to the ground hurrah for that chocolate cat there are marshmallows gumdrops and peppermint canes with stripings of scarlet or gold and you carry a way of the treasure that reigns as much as your apron can hold so come little child cuddle closer to me in your dainty white night cap and gown and i'll rock you away to that sugar plum tree in the garden of shuddai town

the ride to bump ville play that my knee was a calico mare saddled and bridled for bump fill leap to the back of this steed if you dare and gallop away to bump fill i hope you'll be sure to sit fast in your seat for this calico mare is prodigiously fleet and many adventures you're likely to meet as you journey along to bump ville this calico mare both gallops and trots while whisking you off to bump ville she paces she shies and she stumbles in spots in the tortuous road to bumpville and sometimes this strangely mercurial steed will suddenly stop and refuse to proceed which all will admit is victatious indeed when one is on route to bump phil she's scared of the cars when the engine goes toot down by the crossing at bump ville you'd better look out for that treacherous brute bearing you off to bump ville with a snort she rears up on her hindermost heels and execute jigs and virginia reels words fail to explain how embarrassed one feels dancing so wildly to bump phil it's a bumpity bump and it's jiggity jog journeying on to bump ville it's over the hilltop and down through the bog you ride on your way to bump ville it's rattly bang over boulder and stump there are rivers to ford and our fences to jump and the corduroy road it goes a bumpity-bump mile after mile to bump fill perhaps you'll observe it's no easy thing making the journey to bump fill so i think on the whole it were prudent to bring an end to this ride to bump phil for though she has uttered no protest or plant the calico mare must be blowing and faint what's more to the point i'm blowed if i ain't so play we have got to bump fill
