December 02, 2021Lunchtime with Sarnia and Vapor Punk, Bach and the Christmas Song with some Chit Chat TooNothing can halt the positive vibes today at Royal Clarence! Join me for some chat n tracks with a slow version for my students of the Bach Prelude and out new Tale Teller Club single.oh hello darlings welcome to royal clarence i'm having one of those days where the it seemingly the universe is aligned in my favor and everything has just gone so well since i woke up this morning i mean look i woke up with um somewhat crippling arthritis i'll give you that but after after about an hour or so i just sit on my heat pad you see but i sort of have it in the small of my back and it's absolutely wonderful because this heat pad i bought it cost me six pounds 99 which is probably about five dollars and it's a usb lead and you just plug it into your computer and it warms up i mean how terrific is that so what i do is i get up in the morning i go and make my coffee was a slightly um you know looking a bit like an older lady than i really am slightly hobbly i suppose and uh pop the kettle on do all that can still lift it thankfully but do you know what my kettle is an elasti kettle and it's um stainless steel and it's so heavy and when i first got it and i transferred from the old russell hobbs plastic one i thought i'm never going to be able to lift this and i'm never going to be able to get the lid off because the lids bit tight but i adore alessi designs absolutely and i went through a bit of a obsession i suppose is the word for a lessee kitchenailier and i've got quite a lot now i've got stuff i haven't even used anyway i'm digressing so i made my yes i made my coffee and then came back to bed and in the four poster dies my lovely velvet four posters like being in a room of its own it's wonderful and you'll hear as i do these recordings that there are you know no random acoustics going off flying all over the world and all over the room rather and that's because of the velvet you see i'm encased in dripping velvets really thick laura ashley velvet curtains actually anyway digressing again i plug it in the heat pad and within literally within a minute it's almost burning the small of my back but no arthritis and then the other thing that one has to do is get moving because obviously the heat and the coffee are just one um process to killing the pain the other thing one must do when the second coffee pot goes on is two minutes of speed walking on the treadmill and it all it just all goes into one big melting pot of fabulous feelings and you end up afterwards almost high high as a kite on good moodiness and this is where i've arrived at now but there are some other things i've been um getting lots and lots of downloads for the new show vapor punk who i'm just thrilled that finally the he's entered the zeitgeist hello romeo romeo has come to join us um yes he said oh this is the other thing that's made me so happy today we had dramas last week with romeo's intestines and his ibs and this week we have moved on and we have um well i don't want to be graphics i won't be but things have much improved and the reason is raw tuna so romeo now has the trick with some of these cats you see because sometimes i find the boys especially greedy and sometimes they look at the food and they think oh yes i'm going to eat you know it's like they're at an all you can eat buffetand i fell for that when i first um when i first rescued him i fell for the hungry eyes and crying we've all fallen for that haven't we with with men and eventually i realized that the reason he was bringing it all back up again he couldn't manage to hold it down because it's far too much so now he has about eight small meals a day and the raw tuna he's very very happy about it and you know what i think his fur feels better already and it's only been two days it's probably my imagination isn't it but remember he doesn't have a lot of fur because i had to have him shaved recently because uh because of dramas anyway where was i the good moodiness i want to......more28minPlay

December 01, 2021What the Boys Did Over There Personal War Story Accounts Free Audiobooks History Non-FictionWhat the ''Boys'' Did Over Thereby Henry Foxauto text by our robotschapter one of what the boys did over there by henry fox this librivox recording is in the public domain my experience as a dispatcher by private jesse w wade number 151023 dispatch writer aef i enlisted in the u.s army some five years ago and have had continuous service ever since being in the army before the war broke out enabled me to know something about both sides of army life but peace times and war times are as different as day and night one war is enough for any man so now i am ready to settle down but before i do i will endeavor to tell you some of my experiences in this great war overseas being already in the army but in a branch of the service that was not likely to go over among the first i volunteered to go with the first contingent as a dispatcher we started the first leg of our journey across the atlantic and then we began those anxious nights of watching for submarines and that awful seasickness for some 12 days at last we set our feet on solid ground again and started our long journey across france in some french cattle cars marked eight horses or forty men about three days in one of those and one really believes there is a war going on somewhere we were all very much disappointed when we were all landed a long way from the front and told we would stay there until we were trained in modern warfare but all being blue-blooded americans we took it very easy building camps and getting things ready for the other boys that were coming the small village near our camps was full of our boys every night mum's extra dry champagne was selling at two and a half francs per quart 49 cents u.s it wasn't very long before our boys were taking baths in champaign after having a few weeks of camp life there were 50 men picked out to go to the english front to receive instructions in modern warfare i was among the lucky ones and then the fun of war began we were sent to one of the most active british fronts and there we lived in the trenches night and day for two months there i began to realize that sherman's words were only too true anyone who never had the misfortune to be in flanders up around epray at the time will never know the hardships that the british and a few americans had to go through we stood it wonderfully well though we could have enjoyed ourselves much more on broadway but the french say celeger it's the war we had been in the trenches some three weeks before we had the opportunity of going over the top one's feelings the first time he goes over the top can never be known to anyone but himself one will be dozing on the firing step and the platoon leader comes around and whispers in your ear to get ready the time is set for 1 13 am you can hardly talk above a whisper for the least noise draws fire from the enemy as the time draws near you look at your watch and see that you have only seven or eight minutes yet you almost sink down and it seems as though the bones have gone out of your legs and back the time is getting short and at last the big guns open up and something just seems to push you up and over before you are aware of what is happening you were out on no man's land acting like a veteran after one or two of these successful raids you do not think war is so bad after all it is real fun but you have not seen enough of it yet tommy says wait do you have three years of it and you'll be bloody well sick of it sammy one year was enough to make me sick of it another very pleasant job is to crawl out on no man's land some dark night on patrol dragging yourself along on the ground an inch at a time for fear of being heard and fired upon and just as you think everything is going fine you run over a twig and break it it snaps and sounds like a ton of dynamite going up and then they send up a star shell to light up no man's land and you begin to say your prayers then all is quiet again and you finish your work and feel your......more16minPlay

December 01, 2021The Art of Money Getting, or Golden Rules for Making Money P. T. Barnum Read by Ruth Golding.I enjoy Ruth's reading because they are nice and clear. This is a great listen for teens and families.section one of the art of money getting or golden rules for making money by pt barnum this is a librivox recording all librivox recordings are in the public domain for more information or to volunteer please visit librivox.org recording by ruth golding in the united states where we have more land than people it is not at all difficult for persons in good health to make money in this comparatively new field there are so many avenues of success open so many vocations which are not crowded that any person of either sex who is willing at least for the time being to engage in any respectable occupation that offers may find lucrative employment those who really desire to attain an independence have only to set their minds upon it and adopt the proper means as they do in regard to any other object which they wish to accomplish and the thing is easily done but however easy it may be found to make money i have no doubt many of my heroes will agree it is the most difficult thing in the world to keep it the road to wealth is as dr franklin truly says as plain as the road to the mill it consists simply in expending less than we earn that seems to be a very simple problem mr micawber one of those happy creations of the genial dickens puts the case in a strong light when he says that to have annual income of 20 pounds per annum and spend 20 pounds and sixpence is to be the most miserable of men whereas to have an income of only 20 pounds and spend but 19 pounds in six months is to be the happiest of mortals many of my readers may say we understand this this is economy and we know economy is wealth we know we can't eat our cake and keep it also yet i beg to say that perhaps more cases of failure arise from mistakes on this point than almost any other the fact is many people think they understand economy when they really do not true economy is misapprehended and people go through life without properly comprehending what that principle is one says i have an income of so much and here is my neighbor who has the same yet every year he gets something ahead and i fall short why is it i know all about economy he thinks he does but he does not there are men who think that economy consists in saving cheese pairings and candle ends in cutting off two pence from the lawn dress bill and doing all sorts of little mean dirty things economy is not meanness the misfortune is also that this class of persons let their economy apply in only one direction they fancy they are so wonderfully economical in saving a half penny when they ought to spend two pence that they think they can afford to squander in other directions a few years ago before kerosene oil was discovered or thought of one might stop overnight at almost any farmer's house in the agricultural districts and get a very good supper but after supper he might attempt to read in the sitting room and would find it impossible with the inefficient light of one candle the hostess seeing his dilemma would say it is rather difficult to read here evenings the proverb says you must have a ship at sea in order to be able to burn two candles at once we never have an extra candle except on extra occasions these extra occasions occur perhaps twice a year in this way the good woman saves five six or ten dollars in that time but the information which might be derived from having the extra light would of course far outweigh a ton of candles but the trouble does not end here feeling that she is so economical in tallow candles she thinks she can afford to go frequently to the village and spend 20 or 30 dollars for ribbons and furbillos many of which are not necessary this false connote may frequently be seen in men of business and in those instances it often runs to writing paper you find good businessmen who save all the old envelopes and scraps and would not tear a new sheet of paper if they could avoid......more25minPlay
