hello gorgeous people of the internet welcome to royal clarence marina now then i'm absolutely thrilled to welcome the russians today i looked at the i have this map you see and it tells me where my listeners are and russia has just been this expansive white on the map which meant that not a single russian had listened to my show but today it's gone beige i'm absolutely thrilled and my listenership has rocketed so welcome russia um now listen apparently this is hello believe it

so i've been mastering that today and i've also been thinking about uh in in um support of my russian listeners uh looking a bit russian today so when i go to aldi there's the local supermarket i may dress russian and i've got the hat sort of um a fur boxy hat thing i already have that but i'm not sure if it's real fair or not because obviously i run a fancy dress higher facility and i'm not sure how you tell the difference um you know i mean i've obviously i was a filmmaker and an actress and i have a huge wardrobe and apparently if you blow on it you can tell but i don't want to get um stones thrown at me in in the supermarket that would be terrible but it is winter and it's getting chilly so we'll see we'll see i'll make a plan i was wondering if if flat shoes uh russian or not are they big on high heels in russia and then i was thinking about eyebrows because i have to paint my eyebrows on each day due to um the you know hello darling hello i have to paint them on because i plucked them all off in the 70s late 70s late 70s my dad um and you know liverpool the liverpudians have a reputation for very thick eyebrows so i was wondering about um the russians i'll have to go and research i like to be authentic you see so anyway preview to the russians and today i have got for you part chapters five to seven of sir arthur conan doyle's a study in scarlet it's quite a long broadcast today it's about an hour so i hope you can manage to sit through it but um it's very enjoyable and as i said in the last broadcast i do really love this guy's um vocal i just think he sounds warm and wonderful what else i'm going to do a jazz uh recital later for lunchtime which i think you should all join me around about one o'clock um i'm a bit uh slack on time specifics it's just the way i am um you know things happen the cat happens and other things happen i get a phone call or you know mummy rings or something and i get chatting and i tend to get a little bit distracted but i do know i have to do it and i've already recorded my live performances on the piano um now did i tell you about the piano i'm not sure if i told you so the piano was but it turns out the piano was untunable and this is something that happens quite a lot actually with pianos don't be buying a grand piano and thinking you know you're going to be taken right back to the 1920s and you're going to suddenly have grace and um you know a social appeal because it's a ruse most secondhand pianos are defunct and you shouldn't really pay anything i paid 700 pounds i mean it was 400 to deliver it so i paid 300. and yes darling that's far too much money so when you start breaking it down one of things um was that was i ripped off but they are a bit like second-hand car dealers um very similar and the pins inside had been super glued to hold the string and this is something that a professional piano tuner would never do and my lovely lovely wonderful piano tuner who's local actually to gosport um kate burrows lives in elvis stoke i believe absolutely amazing woman and she knew within seconds well of course she would it's her job that the baby grand the baby baby grand was it's quite miniature was um a body job so it was the equivalent of a sort of glued together ford cortina it was just terrible absolutely appalling so i i was quite upset and i...

chapter 3 of the adventures of grandfather frog this is a librivox recording all librivox recordings are in the public domain for more information or to volunteer please visit librivox.com recording by leah sassowitz the adventures of grandfather frog by thornton w burgess chapter 3 longlegs visits the smiling pool long legs the blue heron watched billy mink and little joe otter disappear down the laughing brook as long as they were in sight he sat without moving his head drawn down between his shoulders just as if he had nothing more important to think about than a morning nap but if you had been near enough to have seen his keen eyes you would never have suspected him of even thinking of a nap just as soon as he felt sure that the two little brown-coated scamps were out of sight he stretched his long neck up until he was almost twice as tall as he had been a minute before he looked this way in that way to make sure that no danger was near spread his great wings flapped heavily up into the air and then with his head once more tucked back between his shoulders and his long legs straight out behind him he flew out over the green meadows and making a big circle headed straight for the smiling pool all this time billy mink and little joe otter had not been so far away as long legs supposed they had been hiding where they could watch him and the instant he spread his wings they started back up the laughing brook towards the smiling pool to see what would happen there you see they knew perfectly well that longlegs was flying up to the smiling pool in the hope that he could catch grandfather frog for his breakfast they didn't really mean that any harm should come to grandfather frog but they meant that he should have a great fright you see they were like a great many other people so heedless and thoughtless that they thought it fun to frighten others of course we'll waken grandfather frog in time for him to get away with nothing more than a great scare said little joe otter as they hurried along it will be such fun to see his big goggly eyes pop out when he opens them and sees long legs just ready to gobble him up and won't longlegs be hopping mad when we cheat him out of the breakfast he's so sure he is going to have they reached the smiling pool before longlegs who had taken a roundabout way and they hid among the bulrushes where they could see and not be seen there's the old fellow just as i left him fast asleep whispered billy mink sure enough there on his big green lily pad sat grandfather frog with his eyes shut at least they seemed to be shut and over on top of his big house sat jerry muskrat jerry seemed to be too busy opening a freshwater clam to notice anything else but the truth is he was watching all that was going on you see he had suspected that billy mink was going to play some trick on grandfather frog so he had warned him when he had seen long legs coming towards the smiling pool he had given grandfather frog another warning and he knew that now he was only pretending to be asleep straight up to the smiling pool came long legs the blue heron and on the very edge of it among the bulrushes he dropped his long legs and stood with his toes in the water his long neck stretched up so that he could look all over the smiling pool there just as little joe otter had said sat grandfather frog on his big green lily pad fast asleep at least he seemed to be fast asleep the eyes of long legs sparkled with hunger and the thought of what a splendid breakfast grandfather frog would make very slowly putting each foot down as carefully as he knew how long legs began to walk along the shore so as to get opposite the big green lily pad where grandfather frog was sitting and over in the bulrushes on the other side little joe otter and billy mink nudged each other and clapped their hands over their mouths to keep from laughing...
