September 12, 2021Suzuki Piano Book 2 Scale Exercise C Major Free Lesson with Sarnia School of MusicSuzuki Piano Book 2 Scale Exercise C Major Free Lesson with Sarnia School of Music.hello tail tailors welcome to the music room um first of all it's fantastic that you're um finally starting on book two this is amazing um now you can sneak in if you haven't done book one i don't mind i'm not going to complain but hopefully if you're doing that you sort of understand a bit what i'm talking about i'd like that you could read the music i think otherwise you need to go right back to the beginning i'm afraid because it's a bit tricky and um and also some of the language that i speak about um if you're doing my yoga i hope you've had a really lovely session but if you're not i just want you to think about relaxing before you sit down for the sessions and really feel uh really feel a part of um what you're about to do rather than disassociated from it so if you just draw a couple of breaths before you turn the tape on for example or it's not a tape is it it's a podcast i don't know what you're listening on your phone i guess and so before you before you turn that on it it's really good just to have already reached that stage of feeling really relaxed so be fed be watered draw your tummy into your back shake all your troubles away and feel feel the tension just fall out of you flood down into the ground it's particularly in your knees that the tension can build up and and what happens is it passes up and then before you know your everything's tense wrists everything so it's it's difficult to flop everything and then draw your stomach in but you need to learn how to do it and trust me musicianship a good musicianship requires such a lot of self-discipline in terms of um managing attention and it's a lifelong skill and you'll be glad if you come to the piano and you or you do that habitually so a couple of deep breaths for example and perhaps look out the window just connect with the universe a little bit and breathe deeply okay so we're going to be playing middle c and all the notes up to topsy an octave high and all the notes an entrepreneur as well okay so we're going to be playing all of those i'm going to play as is written holding on to the keynotes we call this a long tonic you can call it the root note holding the root note there are various ways of explaining it basically the c's the name note of the of the um the scale we're going to hang around on it for a bit longer and what that does is it helps our brains understand all these notes and how they're related okay and it's really interesting how spending a bit more time on these root notes um makes your ability to reproduce the scale actually much easier okay i'm going to play it quite slowly and i'm going to call out the fingering one two three one two three four five hold four three two one three two one hold rest rest now when you're passing the third when you've got to play that one again that thumb again hopefully you'll and you have already done the scales um exercises previously and you'll understand that the thumb goes under or oh oh your third finger goes over your thumb goes under if there's any confusion about that you're probably going to have to go back i'm afraid and start again with book one let's look at the left hand and similarly i'm going to call out the fingering five hold four three two one three two one hold two three one under two three four five and hold that obviously um now what you need to do is when you play this you need to practice each hand separately and it's only when you've done each hand separately that i want you to put them together okay so together we can do that i mean i was probably going a bit too fast there so it together would be this heart one hold now obviously your hands are doing different things and this is where the fun starts you see because when we come into the more advanced piano work our hands are seemingly two different people and it it can feel rather odd can feel very very strangeanother really good......more8minPlay
