August 15, 2021Royal Clarence Radio Podcast with Sarnia de la Maré FRSA at the Explosion MuseumA blast of sultry blues kicks off my new show with a little bit of chat as I had the pleasure of going to the Explosion Museum yesterday with mum.Royal Clarence Radio is set in the wonderful marina on the south coast of England, United Kingdom.Welcome to a little bit of paradise.hello darlings welcome to royal clarence radio i'm feeling rather chill a little delicate i won't lie and the reason i'm a little delicate is because yesterday i took my wonderful mother to a new venue actually very close to the marina just across the millennium bridge there um called the powder monkey tap house and it's affiliated with a brewery they say they do their own you know concoctions i'm not sure how all that beer stuff works because we were straight on the vino and a lovely lovely bottle of white um which was affordable and um their shots were rather pricey and they didn't do an irish coffee which was um rather uh of shock to one system so i had to buy my own whiskey and pour it into my coffee because they couldn't seem to manage that i have no idea why but they're very new now that's not what's the most exciting thing about it the most exciting thing about this venue is that it's set in the explosion museum of naval firepower yes it's inside a museum but it's in the open air so you have these sort of rambling grounds there's a field and they had live bands and music everyone was dancing it's a bit of a festival atmosphere and i know they've got another festival thing coming up in october so i will let you know all about that um so consequently it's because it's set in this environment of of navy um firepower there are these gigantic huge structures and and one looks at them and isn't quite sure what they are um they're huge fallacies and i think they were they're guns that were once on ships and submarines and things like that needless to say we stuck mother on them and took lots of photographs it was a bit like you know um being on a family outing actually but of course we'd had a few so it was a one of those a bit a little bit like a wedding i suppose anyway it was super super fun and it was an absolutely charming environment and i liked it because it was very family friendly but there were a lot of older people there as well which i just found really refreshing lots of older attractive men and funnily enough a man came approached my mother and he was 72 and he almost immediately asked mother her age which was i thought was a bit odd but it turns out he's a photographer and he was very pleased that she was 78 and he wanted to take photographs of her can you imagine she was secretly uh devastated obviously on the surface but secretly very very pleased um i don't think she's going to take him up on his offer but he wrote out a card and everything by hand and presented it to her with his phone number and uh how exciting how exciting and i think if she'd said that she was 95 he'd have been even more pleased um however she has no intention of launching a glamour model career at the ripe old age of 78. so but that was a bit of fun and we had an absolutely wonderful time now listen don't eat there maybe because the food was disgusting um i was some sort of hot dog but um it literally felt like it had been rolled around the carpet a few times um it's a completely tasteless and a funny texture so uh i'd avoid the hot dogs i don't know what the other food the other food on the menu was like because we just went for the hot dogs and it wasn't very cheap either so but that's my my review as as it stands now i have a wonderful wonderful tune for you today it is um a 19 it's a 1920s recording so this is taken from a 78 old vinyl 78 it's the courthouse blues by the amazing and talented blue singer clara smith and i think you're going to really really enjoy this heymeisnowhey he mademy three with my faceissplendid absolutely splendid i hope......more8minPlay
