chapter 6 of teddy bears by ada louise sutton this librivox recording is in the public domain chapter 6 bedelia amuses herself happy days succeeded each other with rapidity at the farm sally was enchanted with the poultry yard and spent much time fussing over the beautiful cochin china and white leghorn fells already one enterprising hen had hatched a brood of dear little fluffy yellow chicks and marched proudly around the yard clucking and scratching sally thought she had never seen such rapacious youngsters they were always hungry always peeping for more worms to eat sally longed to pick up the dear little fluffy balls and kiss and cuddle them they reminded her of so many easter pen wipers running around on felt although in her tender little heart she hoped that the easter chicks were manufactured it would have been such an act of cruelty to slaughter the darling baby chickabiddies for horrid old pen wipers mr hale however to whom sally often confided her views remarked with a great want of sentiment that it was really no worse than eating them later on at which the little girl became very thoughtful she was indeed extremely fond of chicken dinners as demonstrated by mrs hale meantime bob was absorbed in the belgian hares and star guinea pigs mr hale made a business of raising them and dr north had purchased a number of pairs knowing how fond the children would become of them sally adored them all and soon divided with them her love for the chicks these she could take up in her arms and cuddle and hug they were all tame and would permit almost any amount of petting one day sally received a great surprise she was hurrying down to the barns where the cows were kept to be introduced to a newly arrived baby calf when suddenly peter pan whom she had securely tucked under her arm twisted himself around and remarked in his funny little growling voice i wish you wouldn't squeeze me so tight you really hurt me sally sat down suddenly on the grass just where she stood she was so astonished of course she dropped the bear who quickly gained his equilibrium and sat up on his haunches rubbing first one elbow and then the other with such a comical expression that the child burst out laughing i suppose you thought it was a dream said the teddy bear rather severely well it wasn't but i have discovered something since then in fact since we have been down here in the country i have found out that if i am very quiet and sleep at night i can get busy in the daytime i was talking to a crow the other night he hopped in on the windowsill after you had gone to sleep he recommended me to try it and it works like a charm here peter pan turned to complete somersault and looked so perfectly absurd in doing it that the child lay back and laughed until she was weak

the only thing that bothers me went on the teddy bear is bedelia she will be in mischief all the time now so many avenues of enterprise were closed to her at night

the little girl sat up and wiped the tears of laughter from her eyes what made you tell her she inquired i didn't retorted the bear she simply followed my example from force of habit and now goodness knows what trouble she will stir up why don't you hibernate said the child reflectively she would follow your example and then i could waken you up and sally broke off suddenly she had just caught a glimpse of a small brown figure skulking along in the shadows of the hollyhocks there she is now she exclaimed i wonder what she can be up to in another moment a great clucking and squawking was heard in the direction of the hen house sally quickly caught up peter pan and raced thither as fast as her legs could carry her and a comical scene it was that revealed itself to the little girl as she hastily swung open...

hi guys welcome to music by tale teller club so i wanted to talk about one of my tracks that's uh i did release it on itunes but um it's not a particularly good mix i don't think on that version you might if you want to buy this you're much better off buying it from my website you get this version this version is a really nice version well comparatively if you um are looking for a pop song you i don't write pop songs ever sometimes i play around with um sort of progressions that i think are poppy and then i try and mess with people's heads by doing weird stuff with it because i really hate formula and formulaic music i think it's childlike and when i write stuff for vapour punk who's my robot i purposefully use sort of pop riffs and carols i've just done a christmas carol one and i kind of do that on purpose almost as a caricature um because it's childish because children will like it but you know adults i mean it's all very well liking a melody you're allowed to like what you like but it's not the sort of music i want to write or make or create so i'm much more of an experimental musician i like to push boundaries and see what i can come up with in a sort of painterly way um i like layers my cats just about jump on the microphone let's change his mind i like layers in the same way you layer paint i'd layer sounds i do layer sounds anyway this track given to the pain as it was an absolute nightmare to make because i saw well i didn't sample as such i didn't you know with a sample you sort of take a recording and then you turn it into a midi uh signal and then you make a note with it or you can make a keyboard sound with it and you know go up and down the keyboard and you can do stuff is it's an electronic sort of sampling i wanted to take a sample as in a recording and then see what happened with some things that i did so i literally just um took it on my phone and and this the thing that i was fascinated with i was doing this uh one of my students was learning ava maria and i really hated the version that we were doing so i was looking for an alternative version so just looking on youtube and i ca i found this and it's alessandro mareshi um singing avo maria and um i think it's on a phonograph i'm pretty sure it's a it must be which is a very very old recording device they they didn't ever um they weren't very successful they were taken over by um other means of recording um but the quality is very very poor but there's something beautiful about it because of the way that it's been recorded and you can hear these sort of layers and weird you can hear weird stuff going on like ghosts i call them can you hear my cat purring i'm sure you can um the i call them sort of ghosts they're like audio ghosts and anyway when i first played this i'll let me play it for you i'll um when i first played this i i could hear some things that i found fascinating but i didn't know what yet because i hadn't taken it onto my headphones and really studied every um you know every vibration that's what you need to do when you're working with something so let's have a listen

okay so that's he he was i think he's the last he was the last living castrati i think i'm sure i've heard that somewhere um but apparently he wasn't castrated to so that he could sing because what happens to these castrate them i think they castrated them definitely before puberty but i think it was when they were about eight and and with no anesthetic either imagine that pretty horrific um and what would happen would the voice wouldn't break and then they would sing in this rather fabulous i mean it's it's no it's not even female is it you wouldn't describe i don't think you'd describe it as female it's something other very much otherworldly um but beautiful very beautiful and these people were considered the to be almost...

in the beginning was the word and the word was with god and the word was god the same was in the beginning with god all things were made through him without him was not anything made that has been made in him was life and the life was the light of men the light shines in the darkness and the darkness hasn't overcome it there came a man sent from god whose name was john the same came as a witness that he might testify about the light that all might believe through him he was not the light but was sent that he might testify about the light the true light that enlightens everyone was coming into the world he was in the world and the world was made through him and the world didn't recognize him he came to his own and those who were his own didn't receive him but as many as received him to them he gave the right to become god's children to those who believe in his name who were born not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man but of god the word became flesh and lived among us we saw his glory such glory as of the one and only son of the father full of grace and truth john testified about him he cried out saying this was he of whom i said he who comes after me has surpassed me for he was before me from his fullness we all received grace upon grace for the law was given through moses grace and truth came through jesus christ no one has seen god at any time the one and only son who is in the bosom of the father he has declared him this is john's testimony when the jews sent priests and levites from jerusalem to ask him who are you he confessed and didn't deny but he confessed i am not the christ they asked him what then are you elijah he said i am not are you the prophet he answered no they said therefore to him who are you give us an answer to take back to those who sent us what do you say about yourself he said i am the voice of one crying in the wilderness make straight the way of the lord as isaiah the prophet said the ones who had been sent were from the pharisees they asked him why then do you baptize if you are not the christ nor elijah nor the prophet john answered them i baptize in water but among you stands one whom you don't know he is the one who comes after me who is preferred before me whose sandal strap i'm not worthy to loosen these things were done in bethany beyond the jordan where john was baptizing the next day he saw jesus coming to him and said behold the lamb of god who takes away the sin of the world this is he of whom i said after me comes a man who is preferred before me for he was before me i didn't know him but for this reason i came baptizing in water that he would be revealed to israel john testified saying i have seen the spirit descending like a dove out of heaven and it remained on him i didn't recognize him but he who sent me to baptize in water he said to me on whomever you will see the spirit descending and remaining on him the same is he who baptizes in the holy spirit i have seen and have testified that this is the son of god again the next day john was standing with two of his disciples and he looked at jesus as he walked and said behold the lamb of god the two disciples heard him speak and they followed jesus jesus turned and saw them following and said to them what are you looking for they said to him rabbi which is to say being interpreted teacher where are you staying he said to them come and see they came and saw where he was staying and they stayed with him that day it was about the tenth hour one of the...
