  • Diaries of Charlie Broadwood Vol.2

    In these series of tales, we will read extracts from the diary of a former school boy at Heriots, turned Soldier in the Royal Scots Regiment, who, once back from the War embarked upon a fruitful 37 year long career as an English teacher at George Heriot’s School.

    In these diaries we hear stories from Charlie’s last year at school in 1915. He describes the feelings and emotions from his final June Day at Heriot's and the time before he went on to fight during the World War I.

    In these diaries we hear stories from Charlie’s time at school between 1909 - 1912. He was a talented sportsman playing for both the cricket and rugby first teams and in his 6th year here was voted School Captain. He was a very well-liked pupil, colleague and teacher.

  • The Serbian Boys in 1916

    This episode recounts a very prominent time in the school’s history and explores when Serbian boys were gifted an education at Heriot’s in 1916. 

    Allow Zack Hassan (2012) to take you on a journey back to the early 1900s as he recounts the experiences of two Serbian refugees - Djordje Osmanbegovitch and Slvetomir Marianovitch as they travelled to Edinburgh to start their education at Heriot’s.

    Welcome to the 2nd series of the 𝘛𝘢𝘭𝘦𝘴 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘏𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘰𝘵'𝘴 podcast.

    In this episode, Jac Pentland (Class of 1997 and current Herioter President) explores the trials and tribulations of World War I, recollecting real accounts from former pupils who fought in Gallipoli in 1915.

    Jac recounts two letters written by former pupils who served at Gallipoli; Lieutenant Thomas Burt (13th Royal Scots) and Lieutenant Dods Munro (The Lovat Scouts) to give a feel for what life was like for these remarkable Herioters during such a testing time in our history.
