David Detmold is one of the organizer of the Change the Massachusetts State Flag movement that is seeking to push legislation that would change the flag, from what they see as violent and problematic, to something more welcoming that would include the voices of native people.

Elise Linscott wrote in MassLive about how the Northampton city council in conjunction with local legislators are calling for the Massachusetts flag to be changed because of its depiction of a Native American. Activists and legislators came together to push for a change in the flag, that they say is triggering and offensive to Native people.
