The NCAA Tournament in May is one of the weeks NYCC circles on the calendar every year. Since attending our first NCAA Championships in 2022, it has become a staple of our annual travel schedule.
This year, we traveled to Athens, Georgia, the Mecca of college tennis, for May Madness.
In this episode, we recap the making of The Road to Athens, our first mini documentary covering the NCAA Tennis Championships. We share behind-the-scenes stories from championship week, reflect on the production process, discuss the matches, players, and atmosphere that stood out, and talk about what we learned from one of our biggest projects to date.
A few years ago, we set out with a goal to help grow the game by giving players a platform, shining a light on parts of tennis that often go unseen, and creating memories that last long after the final point.
College tennis has become one of the spaces where that mission comes to life for us. The energy, the access, and the relationships we've built with coaches, players, and fans have made it one of our favorite events to cover. It's also been rewarding to watch players we've known since their junior days reach new heights and compete on one of the biggest stages in college tennis.
Huge thanks to Sedrick Kirschman, Ethan Dickens, and Coach Scotty Moreland for making the trip to Athens, and to our Airbnb host for making us feel at home all week.
