On this episode of Fear the Walking Dead Talk Through, Kyle, Mark, and I talk at 210 Words Per Minute. Fear the Walking Dead Season 5 Episode 10 was written by the showrunners Ian Goldberg & Andrew Chambliss, and directed by long-time Hollywood director Ron Underwood.
...AND YOU BLEW IT!!! Yeah, you probably knew that was coming. I couldn't help it this time. He DID blow it. I'm still a little puzzled WHY he didn't go with her. I suspected it wasn't JUST one thing, but several.
Here is the picture that Kyle was talking about and if anyone knows what or if there is a meaning to Dwight's Truck Grill Decoration? I just noticed it and how the way it was shot. But don't know if there was really any meaning. If there is.. let us know.

Channel 4, Fear the Walking Dead Season 5 Episode 9, was an episode that was probably in the making since What's Your Story. In that episode, we first see Al's desire to interview people to get their stories. It was a long time coming to shoot an episode in this style, which is a first for The Walking Dead franchise.
I happen to be one of those people. Hopefully, I was able to convince Kyle and Mark that it was better than they originally thought.
You have to remember that this was told not from the viewer's perspective, but to whoever would watch the videotape. In this case, Wes. It may seem cheesy, but it was told to that viewer, not us. We were simply watching over Wes' shoulder. It even had VCR glitches at the start and end of the episode.
This is the first episode that we are publishing in our new home at Talk Through Media. Hopefully, if you are reading this, either you found us from your podcast client of choice automatically, or you came to walkingdeadtalkthrough.com and were redirected here.

Kyle, Mark and I talk through Fear the Walking Dead Season 5 Episode 8, which is titled, Is Anybody Out There? This was written by co-executive producer Michael Alaimo, and directed by Michael E. Satrazemis.
After five years, we decided that we were ready to strike out on our own, and as a result, we are leaving the Golden Spiral Media network. We would like to thank Darrell for the opportunity to podcast with GSM over the last five years, and thank him for allowing us to take our podcasts with us. Going forward, the podcasts that we do will be a part of our new network, which is called Talk Through Media, and will consist of the following podcasts:
We are excited to start our new endeavor, and we hope to have everything set up by the time we return in three weeks for the FTWD mid-season premiere! If you are listening to us via our TWDTT/FTWDTT feed on whatever podcast app you choose, you should be OK going forward. When we make the change, it should be transparent, and the feed should continue to work. However, if you don't see an episode from us in about three weeks, several days after the mid-season premiere, then there might be an issue. If you listen to us via the goldenspiralmedia.com website, the episodes will no longer appear here. Just go to walkingdeadtalkthrough.com and you will be redirected to the new location from there!
Now that we have our announcement out of the way, we have to share more feedback we received for last week's episode, S5E7 Still Standing. Discussion on last week's episode starts at 34 minutes and 22 seconds into the podcast and ends at into the podcast.
It seems that most people agree that this episode was better than the last several episodes, although Kyle didn't like it as much as Mark or I did.
Are you wondering about the ratings for S5E8 Is Anybody Out There? Well, they were up this week! got a 0.48 in the 18-49 demographic with 1.599 million viewers, which is up from the last week's all-time low of 0.34 and 1.393 million viewers. Talking Dead, on the other hand, after weeks of not being on, came back to what might be the lowest ratings of that show. It only got a 0.07 in the 18-49, with only 373,000 viewers.
On this episode 58 of Fear the Walking Dead Talk Through, Brian, Kyle and Mark talk through Fear the Walking Dead Season 5 Episode 7, which is titled, Still Standing. This was written by co-producer Richard Naing, and directed by Marta Cunningham. Marta Cunningham is notable because we think she is the first director to also direct Star Trek: Discovery, which is the other show Brian podcasts about.
Before we get into this week's episode, we have to share more feedback we received for last week's episode, S5E6 The Little Prince, and Kyle tells us what he thought of the episode. Discussion on this week's episode starts at 30 minutes and 37 seconds into the podcast.
Most people think this episode was better than last week, but it's no masterpiece. The character moments are really good, but there are some points in this episode that are handwaved over. How did Strand and Charlie move the balloon? How did it become arranged in such a way to make a wall? How did they move the propellers? How are they continuing to put the plane together when it seems there's no one actually working on it? How did they suddenly become airplane mechanics? How we don't see June and Al repel up the mountain? It has some flaws, but if you don't nitpick too much, it's still an enjoyable story.
For the second week in a row, FTWD ratings sunk to a new low in the 18-49 demographic and ratings. S5E6 The Little Prince got a 0.34 in the 18-49 demographic with 1.393 million viewers, down from the last week's 0.42 and 1.488 million viewers. Unfortunately, this is an all-time low in ratings and viewers for the show. Again, there was no Talking Dead this week so no ratings for it, but it returns next week.
Still Standing wasn't a spectacular episode, but we liked it well enough. On this episode 57 of Fear the Walking Dead Talk Through, Brian and Mark talk through Fear the Walking Dead Season 5 Episode 6, which is titled, The Little Prince. This was written by Mallory Westfall, and directed by Sharat Raju.
Before we get into this week's episode, we have to share more feedback we received for last week's episode, S5E5 The End of Everything. Discussion on this week's episode starts at 38 minutes and 30 seconds into the podcast.
It's rare when we like an episode more than all of our listeners, but that was true for The Little Prince this week. For me, I guess it was because our main characters continue having hope, despite insurmountable odds. That's the only thing I can think of, but I guess it was hopeful when I needed it to be.
Mark and I talk a bit about that news that was a rumor last week, that ended up being the truth. The Walking Dead comic bookended this week, and we talk a little about it, without giving away any spoilers.
This week, FTWD ratings sunk to a new low in the 18-49 demographic. S5E6 The Little Prince got a 0.42 in the 18-49 demographic with 1.488 million viewers, down from the last week's 0.46 and 1.708 million viewers. Unfortunately, this is an all-time low in ratings and viewers for the show. This is not a good trend to go. Again, there was no Talking Dead this week so no ratings for it.
The Little Prince wasn't a spectacular episode, but we loved it still, although maybe it was a small love and not a Love or a LOVE. On this episode 56 of Fear the Walking Dead Talk Through, Brian and Kyle are joined again by our special guest co-host Mark from The Walking Dead Talk Through, as we talk through Fear the Walking Dead Season 5 Episode 5, which is titled, The End of Everything. This was written by co-showrunners Andrew Chambliss & Ian Goldberg, and directed by co-executive producer Michael E. Satrazemis.
Before we get into this week's episode, we have to share more feedback we received for last week's episode, S5E4 Skidmark. Discussion on this week's episode starts at 13 minutes and 35 seconds into the podcast.
We get to learn a bit about why Althea's so determined to get the story and at least a part of the story that was The Bog. She chased the story instead of staying with her brother. We get some insights about the group with the helicopter that we also see that takes away Rick on The Walking Dead. If they are trying to rebuild civilization, why are they killing anyone they come in contact with? For that matter, to take it down to basic survival, since a civilization needs people, not to mention more people being born, why would you kill someone who can have children? Why not recruit her? I don't get it. This episode just made me ask a lot more questions about them than it answered.
Yes, it was obvious that there was an attraction between Althea and Isabelle, but the whole "I'm going to kill you but I can't 'cause I love you" vibe I just couldn't get into. If the actors weren't as strong this episode, I would not have given a much lower rating to this episode, but I liked the ending and in the end, I liked it more than I could have. Kyle and Mark liked it more than I did.
This week, FTWD ratings sunk to a new low in the 18-49 demographic. S5E5 The End of Everything got a 0.46 in the 18-49 demographic with 1.708 million viewers, up from the last week's 0.45 and 1.655 million viewers. Again, there was no Talking Dead this week so no ratings for it.
The End of Everything didn't wow us. We liked it, but no one loved it. On this episode 55 of Fear the Walking Dead Talk Through, Brian and Kyle are joined again by our special guest co-host Mark from The Walking Dead Talk Through, as we talk through Fear the Walking Dead Season 5 Episode 4, which is titled, Skidmark. This was written by Samir Mehta, his first episode on this show, and directed by Tara Nicole Weyr, making her second stint as a director on this show. She previously directed S4E11 The Code.
Before we get into this week's episode, we have to share more feedback we received for last week's episode, S5E3 Humbug's Gulch. Discussion on this week's episode starts at 20 minutes and 57 seconds into the podcast.
We get a good cold open this episode, with Daniel showing how he uses Skidmark as a diversionary tactic. That little guy seems to know how to get the zombies' attention and smart enough to know not to let them get too close. I thought this was a great use of the cat, though some would say most cats don't take commands. However, they do exist. One of my cats, Tazz, reminds me of Skidmark. He listens to commands and usually follows them. We also see Daniel be The Pied Piper of walkers again, something he did in S1E6 The Good Man.
We see that there are more than just Dylan, Max, and Annie that are around. There are more kids, lots more. What happened that made them so scared of grown-ups? Then, we see that symbol we saw when Althea was taken, and We see the helicopter again, and it's pretty clear this is from the same group... you know, the A or B group... that took away Rick and Jadis in the helicopter on TWD. It seems we'll get to know more about this group next episode.
This episode had a unique way to take care of walkers... the plane propellers. That was a pretty cool stunt, helping to save Daniel and at least a truce be called between Daniel and Strand. I thought the scenes with Daniel and Charlie were nice, too. Could he become a foster father for her?
This week, FTWD ratings sunk to a new low in the 18-49 demographic. S5E4 Skidmark got a 0.45 in the 18-49 demographic with 1.655 million viewers, the lowest since S4E12 Weak, down from the last week's 0.54 and 1.756 million viewers. Again, there was no Talking Dead this week so no ratings for it.
On this very special episode 42 of The Star Trek Discovery Podcast, Ruthie has an interview with Star Trek icon, Nana Visitor, who of course played Major (later Colonel) Kira Nerys on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine! OK, so it’s not Star Trek: Discovery, but we didn’t think you’d mind! This interview was recorded on Sunday, June 9, 2019, at Soonercon, which took place June 7-9 in Norman, OK. After the interview, Ruthie talks to me about her experience at Soonercon. TLDR: She had a blast! And thanks to Dr. Trek himself, Larry Nemecek of Portal 47 for his help in getting Ruthie a press pass at Soonercon, and to the Soonercon organizers for allowing us to cover the con!
We talk briefly about the Star Trek: Picard teaser. By the way, notice where that points? That’s right! Brian owns startrekpicard.com! Of course, we both loved it!
Brian ends it with some discussion about a few recent iTunes reviews that he wanted to visit and explain himself for things he said during episode 39.
We are finally recording our post-Season 2 roundtable on the weekend, so you should see that in your feed next!

On this episode 54 of Fear the Walking Dead Talk Through, Brian and Kyle are joined again by our special guest co-host Mark from The Walking Dead Talk Through, as we talk through Fear the Walking Dead Season 5 Episode 3, which is titled, Humbug's Gulch. This was written by Ashley Cardiff, her first episode on this show, and directed by Colman Domingo, who plays Strand on the show, and is making his second stint as a director on this show. He previously directed S4E12 Weak.
Before we get into this week's episode, we have to share more feedback we received for last week's episode, S5E2 The Hurt That Will Happen. Discussion on this week's episode starts at 27 minutes and 30 seconds into the podcast.
We see this episode lean into the backstory of John, as a former trick shooter at a western theme park. The vibe of this episode, especially the music and look, was reminiscent of the old spaghetti westerns of the 1960s. I thought it perfectly fit in with the Texas motif, and I enjoyed it. Some found the San Antonio Split beyond their suspension of disbelief, but I thought they sold it well by saying it was only the second time John had been able to successfully split a bullet to two targets. Crazy, yes, but I bought it.
We had already been told by the showrunners that Dwight was going to be crossing over to Fear from the main show, and I was skeptical as to the believability of this crossover, and not sure I wanted him on the show. Now that it's upon us, I thought it was very well done. I wasn't always receptive to Dwight's character and story, but I found myself very drawn to his character's story, heartbroken that he hadn't found Sherry yet and how that had led to desperation and anguish.
Having him found by John and June, the two characters who could best sympathize with his story were appropriate and very fitting. And he fits! He's a character that has a lot to atone to and is on his own redemption arc. He's also a character that needs the group's help. So, if he can find Sherry, and help others, he's a perfect fit for this completely different show from two years ago.
Some people complained about the clues Sherry left behind for Dwight. There was some confusion as far as why he thought the car John and June were driving was the same car that he was looking for that Sherry had been driving, and where the registration was. If you recall way back in Season 7 of The Walking Dead, Sherry left Dwight a note that told him where she was going, a cottage they stayed before the apocalypse.
When he left at the end of S8E16, he went there and found another note for him that said Honeymoon. We can assume that there was a note for him there, and then another, and probably another. Whether it was in her previous car or where she was staying, Sherry took another car and left behind the registration with another note on the back. Apparently, this car had the same year, make, model and color of the car on the registration, but after comparing the registration VIN with the VIN on the car itself, John was able to determine this was not the correct vehicle, despite matching otherwise.
It seems
