  • Talkback Tuesday: Public Transportation Fare Hike

It was reported that SPAD has put a recommendation in to the Transport Ministry to increase public transport charges nationwide. While the proposal awaits green light, many are already up in arms over the matter. But some have argued that a public transportation hike is unavoidable given the meager wages sustained by workers of transportation companies. Whatever the outcome, what we want to know is: IF there is a public transportation hike, what kind of service would you then expect and are they achievable?

On tonight’s Talkback we asked for your opinion. What do you think of the 3 tier fuel subsidy rationalisation scheme? Our lines were open.

  • Talkback Tuesday: SPM Forecast Results

Parents are up in arms again, and this time it’s about the Ministry of Education’s decision to bar Form 5 students from applying for pre-university programmes using their SPM forecast results. The announcement came as a shock to all; parents and private institutions most of all.

Forecast results, in practice at least, have been used by private institutions upon which students are given a place at the college under a conditional offer. The actual SPM results would then be shared once it is released, where a student must achieve 5 credits. If they fail to produce 5 credits, they will be forced to leave the programme.
The issue parents and students have with this decision to not use forecast results is that further studies will have to be postponed a year later.

On this episode of Talkback we asked: Do you agree that students should not be allowed to apply for private institutions using SPM forecast results?

  • Talkback Tuesday: Science vs Arts - Will science education alone produce great leaders?

The Science vs Arts argument has long been in the books, with Science always being the preferred choice over the often depicted "lesser-successful" Arts education. And today, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said that Malaysia will continue to push for science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) education to help propel the tech-driven economy and to help encourage future leaders. Is it fair to give certain subjects more emphasis than others? What does that say about our students who prefer Arts education more?  Will STEM education alone really shape the future of our country? We asked what you thought on Talkback Tuesday.
