Talking Apes TV: A Planet of the Apes Podcast

Hey Hey Ape fans! Welcome back to Talking Apes TV! We are the podcast that takes an entertaining look at each episode of the Planet Of The Apes TV series from 1974 to find out why it still stands up after 40 years.

"The Liberator" is the 13th episode of the series and the most controversial because of its subject matter of slavery and atomic bombs. Many sources list this episode as "Unaired" - possibly because it was pre-empted in one or two major markets. However, both CBS-TV records and Neilsen Ratings data testify that it was shown in some areas.

In "The Liberator" Alan, Pete and Galen are captured by a village who is forced to give up five human slaves to their ape overlords to work in the mines. The leader of the village sacrifices the unwilling humans to their god in a fatal ceremony. The temple where this is held turns out to be an ancient ruin where a poisonous invisible gas is manufactured.

We also reveal the final winners of our Planet Of The Apes TV soundtrack! Thanks once again to LaLa Land Records for donating these CD's.

Next week we look at the FINAL episode, "Up Above The World So High." After that we have so many great episodes planned such as Ape interviews with fans, actors and authors as well as starting up the Planet Of The Apes Animated Series.

Until then, GO APE!

Hey Hey Ape fans! Join Richard and Mark as they discuss the 10th episode in the Planet Of The Apes TV series, "The Interrogation". In this episode which aired 11/15/1974, Pete is captured and taken to Central City where Urko (Orko?) meets with Zaius, who has a special "experiment" planned to get information from him with the aid of Wanda, a chimpanzee scientist, who has discovered a book from a time capsule from 1986 on how to brainwash humans.

We also talk about meeting several of the Ape TV/movie actors and authors of the Planet Of The Apes: Evolution Of The Legend. Find out from Ron Harper himself if it's really pronounced Urko or Orko.

And who are the lucky 3 winners of the Apes TV soundtrack, listen in and find out! Thank you once again to La-La Land Records for supplying us with those copies.

Hey Hey Ape fans! I know we promised we were going to go into "The Interrogation" episode on this show, but we're going to take a break and talk with artist PAUL BATEMAN. For the Star Wars fans out there you may know him as Ralph McQuarrie's apprentice. (Monty Sanzo-tera we know you were looking forward to "The Interrogation" so don't worry it's coming.)

We also want to remind everyone about our Planet Of The Apes TV soundtrack giveaway. La-La Land Records has graciously given us three copies to give away. We are giving 1 CD set to any new Likes on Facebook, we are giving away 2 CD sets to reviews on iTunes. If you've already 'liked' us or gave a review then you are automatically entered.

The winner will be chosen midnight Monday 2/16 and announced on our 2/19 episode. And you will have until midnight on March 19 to claim your prize. If you don't claim your prize it will go to the next Ape.

Come back to our next episode where we will not only go into "The Interrogation" episode but also tell you about the autograph signings held at Dark Delicacies on Feb. 7 where we met Ron Harper (Alan Virdon), Lou Wagner (Lucius), Gary Dubin (the "Look It's a Man" child gorilla) and many more Apes luminaries.

Hey Hey Ape fans! We are back with another great show. This apes episode, "The Horse Race" aired 11/8/1974.

Plot: In exchange for a condemned human's freedom, Alan agrees to race a horse that belongs to prefect Barlow against Urko’s horse (who has never won a race fairly). We last saw Barlow in the 2nd episode titled "The Gladiators.” (SPOILER - Urko takes off his helmet and there is no Pete backstory).

Hey Hey Ape fans! Happy New Year everyone. We hope everyone had an Urko-tastic 2014 (We're trying to make that a thing).

We are now at the halfway hump having gone through 8 episodes. In this episode we look "The Deception", which aired on 11/1/1974. Galen, Pete and Alan hunt down a band of murderous ape dragoons. But the blind ape daughter of the dragoons' latest victim falls in love with Pete - unaware that he is human.

Ape listener, Michael Kostka, writes in to answer some questions from the last episode, "The Surgeon", including where to find future American Werewolf and Dr. Pepper pitch-man David Naughton.

Happy Holidays Ape Fans!

Welcome to the holiday episode of Talking Apes TV! We are the podcast that takes an in-depth look at each episode of the Planet Of The Apes TV series from 1974 to find out why it still stands up after 40 years. This was also the year that kids were asking Santa for the newest toys and games like Twister, Connect 4, and, GI Joe with the Kung Fu grip.

Join Richard and Mark as they say their goodbye to TV's Dr. Zaius, Booth Colman, in our opinion the best of the Zaius'.

In this episode, "The Surgeon", which aired 10/25/1974, Alan is shot by a gorilla patrol. Galen and Pete take him to a medical center where we meet Dr. Kyra (Played by Jacqueline Scott who portrayed Zantes in the "Good Seeds"), someone special from Galen's past.

Hey Hey Ape fans! In this episode of Talking Apes TV, we look at "Tomorrow's Tide". Remember this one? When Pete and Alan are captured in a fishing village that employs human slave labor, they must prove their worth as fishermen or be sacrificed to the gods of the sea - the sharks.

Every other week we are finding random connections between Star Wars and Planet Of The Apes. In our new segment, The Star Wars Connection, we tell you what we found this week. Thanks to Rob Dehlinger for writing a great segment theme. (Any guesses as to what the music was influenced by?)

We also reveal a new winner of the Planet Of The Apes TV Series DVD Box Set. Is it you?

Unfortunately we don't see General Urko in this episode so we don't know if his helmet is on or off his head.

As always, thank you Apes for listening. #Hurtonsanidiot
