This is a stroll down memory lane. When I first changed mymajor to education, I found myself with an ample amount of interactions with teenagers. I met today’s guest when I first started attending a church regularly in Athens, OH. The selling point was, “Yo, there’s black people.”  That was 20+ years ago and to be honest, it does NOT feel like that much time has flown by. It’s hard to accept she is a grown entrepreneur, business owner, wife, mother, and more. Sometimes, she is still that teen I would see a few times a week in Athens, or in The Plains. We go back to when I was carrying my Sony Cybershotaround trying to capture moments of my “college experience.”  I may have to dig some up just for nostalgiaand laughs.

Season 4 Episode 73 Michael Houston: In the KNICK of Time

This is a stroll down memory lane. Lets go back to 2006school year. That’s 2006-2007. This is my 2nd year teaching. We just had this crazy long summer break since the start of the school year was pushed back by a couple weeks. So I was out before memorial day, and found myself witha 11+ week summer. Over the summer, I was asked if I had any interest in coaching basketball.

Long story short, I took the job, and Michael aka Mikey aka Spotz was a player on that team.

When we first discussed recording a couple years ago, wewanted to have another teacher of his come on. That was Tom Martens aka Mr. Martens. I threw it out there to him as we started recording and he joined! So 3 of us laughed and reminisced.

We discuss the Knicks and how they pulled off their first NBA championship in 50+ years. And then we discuss high school and our humble basketball beginnings as a player and coach. Lessons learned and how we continued to grow from that monumental 2006-2007 school year.

Being an educator has afforded me some of the most amazingfriendships. I've always felt blessed to meet amazing individuals who work in an educational space. My guest today is one of them. She has raced in front of a crowdof 30k + fans in the heat of a North Texas summer. She was a JUMBOTRON girl, worked in promotions, lived in Hawaii, and actually LEFT the island to return to setup shop in Texas. She is a the daughter of a known Texas sports figure, but I like her family story best! My guest is Ally Nyp, and she is an incredibly skilled and passionate social worker.

Thank you for joining me for another episode of Talking Backto the Teacher Podcast. My guest today pulled up and met me at Senor Locos in Plano, Texas. She is a recent high school graduate. She completed 2 years of our clinicals programs. She frequented hospitals , vet clinics, medical centers andmore. She honed her IV skills at the fire station and with first responders. She earned her PCT certificate through the clinical program as well.  She is a dual credit student who earned ample college credits for little to no charge while still enrolled in college. She is just getting started. She is a big sister, with thinking and processing beyond her years. She works 2 jobs, plays 3rd parent at times and has more recently relocated across the country to North Carolina. Tell Petey Pablo I said what's up!
