Seit Oktober 2022 ist Giorgia Meloni Ministerpräsidentin Italiens. Zum ersten Mal seit 1945 wird Italiens Regierung von einer Partei angeführt, die direkt aus dem Mussolini-Regime hervorgegangen ist - Fratelli d’Italia.
Das Mercator Forum Migration und Demokratie (MIDEM) zeigt in seiner Jahresstudie auf, wie europäische Gesellschaften mit der Aufnahme von Geflüchteten in Zeiten von Krieg und steigenden Energie- und Lebenshaltungskosten umgehen. Im Mittelpunkt steht dabei die ukrainische Fluchtmigration. Präsentiert werden auch Ergebnisse einer neuen repräsentativen MIDEM-Befragung, die Einstellungen der Bevölkerung zum Krieg in der Ukraine und zur Aufnahme der Geflüchteten in 10 europäischen Ländern erhoben hat.

An der hier hochgeladenen Podiumsdiskussion nahmen neben Hans Vorländer (Direktor MIDEM) auch Petra Köpping, Sächsische Staatsministerin für Soziales und Gesellschaftlichen Zusammenhalt, Nataliya Pryhornytska, Politikwissenschaftlerin und Mitbegründerin Allianz Ukrainischer Organisationen sowie Ulrich Weinbrenner, Leiter der Abteilung Migration, Flüchtlinge, Rückkehrpolitik im Bundesministerium des Innern und für Heimat, teil. Moderiert wurde die Diskussion von Ferdos Forudastan, Journalistin und Geschäftsführerin der Civis-Medienstiftung.

Welchen Einfluss hatten rechtspopulistische Parteien auf die Diskurse, Politisierung und Polarisierung in Zeiten der Corona-Pandemie? Dies untersuchte die MIDEM-Jahresstudie 2021 ‚Corona und Rechtspopulismus‘ in vergleichender Weise in zwölf europäischen Ländern. Denn Krisenzeiten sind die Stunde der Populisten, dies zeigte die Migrationskrise. Doch sind Rechtspopulisten auch Profiteure der Corona-Pandemie? Die Ergebnisse der MIDEM-Studie zeichnen ein uneinheitliches Bild.
Diese Episode stellt das methodische Design unserer Untersuchung vor und beleuchtet die Ergebnisse für Deutschland und Sachsen im Detail. Im Gespräch mit den MIDEM-Forschern Steven Schäller und Ender Yilmazel diskutiert MIDEM-Direktor Prof. Hans Vorländer, welche Rolle das Thema Migration in der Corona-Debatte spielte, warum populistische Parteien in Regierungsverantwortung sachlicher kommunizieren als in der Opposition und wieso die AfD einen Kurswechsel vom Plädoyer für einen starken Staat zur vermeintlichen Verfechterin bürgerlicher Freiheiten vollzog. Denn die Jahresstudie 2021 ergibt: Corona war kein Gewinnerthema für die AfD. Dennoch zeigen die Ergebnisse der Bundestagswahl 2021, dass sie unter der Pandemie nicht wirklich gelitten und ihr Wahlergebnis gehalten hat.
In dieser Folge sprechen Hans Vorländer, Maik Herold und Cyrill Otteni über die Ergebnisse der MIDEM-Studie „Covid-19 in Sachsen“. Diese lieferte erstmalig repräsentative Ergebnisse zur Einstellung der sächsischen Bevölkerung zu den Corona-Schutzmaßnahmen und den Unterschieden innerhalb Sachsens selbst. Im Zentrum steht die Frage: Was denken die Sachsen und die Sächsinnen?
