On this episode we talk depression with Ms. Dee Carpenter, a native of Gaffney, SC, and a Master’s Level Social Worker with over four years of experience in the social service arena. Ms. Carpenter is committed to helping others develop and expand their skills and techniques as human service providers and makes a continuous effort to raise awareness about the communality of mental health within the African American community.

Ms. Carpenter graduated from Lander University with a Bachelors in Sociology, an emphasis in Criminal Justice and a Minor in African American Studies in Spring of 2011. She would continue to further her education by attending the University Of South Carolina-Columbia where she obtained her Masters of Social Work-(specialization in Children, Adolescents, and Families) Degree in Fall of 2017.

Ms. Carpenter has served as a school-based mental health clinician and community mental health provider for a local private practice. In her role as a clinician Ms. Carpenter worked to advocate for the emotional and social needs of individuals children, and/or families encountering acute to severe mental illness. Ms. Carpenter worked with the administrative leaders and executive directors of her designated organizations to help support the social, emotional, and academic needs and/or accommodations for the individuals in which she served.

Ms. Carpenter is the mother of one son, Dalton Carpenter. She serves as a Full-time Human Service Instructor at Piedmont Technical College at the Main Campus located in Greenwood, SC. She is the Active Advisor for the Human Service Club and a current member of the National Organization of Human Services. In the upcoming years Ms. Carpenter aspires to obtain her Licensure in social work, obtain a certification in grief counseling and enroll in a Doctoral Program to help advance her skill sets and techniques as a community service provider.
