We are back with another episode of the Talking Lead Podcast show! This week we travel to Ohio for an impressive demonstration of a high-tech fiber optic detection system and an exhilarating day of shooting machine guns.
Brian Borkowski with Asymmetric Technologies joins Lefty. A veteran owned company, ASYMMETRIC TECHNOLOGIES LLC is a group of experts in the rapid technology transitioning process. They are a team of seasoned professionals, engineers and technicians, who have consistently excelled at the rapid fielding of new technology. They are agile, deliberate, and understand how to effectively integrate and transition new technology in the current operational environment.
As the guys start to get into today's topic the Gunny rolls in with the Talking Lead Jackwagon Train. This time a dumb "smart" gun earns a seat on the TLJW Train along with another useless gun buy-back program in New Jersey.
Next Brain and Lefty talk about the latest projects Asymmetrics are working on. Drones are always a fun topic to discuss which AT just so happens to be involved in some interesting drone research. Another project in the works is a high-grade DOPPLER LIDAR system (Light {laser} Detection and Ranging) that builds 3d models which is used for base defense applications.
The main project we were there to see was the Fiber Optic Detection System or FODS. A commercially available version using a fiber optic cable with a range of 100 kilometers allows you to have up to 5000 channels which allows detection of different energy signatures (patterns of life) put into the ground. Ideally used for threat detection around a perimeter this systems can differentiate between a person walking their dog vs a person cutting your fence. A car passing by vs a car that stops, gets out and interacts with your fence. The FODS system is so diverse it can be used for geological, military, gas & oil industry, nuclear facilities, and even border security aspects.
After business we have a ton of fun with the 2nd Annual Asymmetric Technologies Machine Gun Shoot. Tusker Arms provided an awesome array of unique fully automatic guns which included: Micro & Mini Uzis; M16 Armalite AR-15; AK47 Kalashnikov Automatic Rifle; Thompson SubMachine Gun; MAC-10 Military Armament Corporation Model 10; FN Herstal FN P90; M1918 Browning Automatic Rifle (BAR), M249 Squad Automatic Weapon (SAW); M107 Barrett Semi-Auto 50 cal; MG 42 Maschinengewehr 42; M1919 Browning 1919; Czeck UK vz. 59 Universal Machine Gun Model 1959; Heckler & Koch HK23e; and many more. Some of these were a once in a lifetime opportunity to shoot and shoot we did!
Welcome back to the Talking Lead Show! This week we learn about Suppressors with our fellow Lead Heads Joe Meaux and Charles Watson with Aklys Defense. We did a rare Live show this week on Aklys Defense's Social Media Page.
Before class gets started the Talking Lead Jackwagon Train barrels in to load up some new passengers. The California Penal systems makes the cut this week for allowing O.J. Simpson's parole. Also making it on this week's passenger list are celebrities that off themselves.
After having fun with the Jackwagons the bell rings and "Gun Muffler" class begins. What is a suppressor? How do they work? What are the different types? What is "First Round Pop"? What are the legal aspects of owning a silencer? The guys talk about everything you ever wanted to know about gun suppressors and more.
Joe and Charlie give us with a couple or three new Talking Lead Facts To Fight The Myth. Our first pertains to the ATF and home visits to check NFA items...know your rights! Another about suppressor in Hollywood, are they really that quiet? And more...
There has never been a better time to buy a suppressor or a firearm for that matter. Prices are at all time lows and with the Hearing Protection Act still sitting in committee now is the time to contact your Government representatives and get them on board. You can contact your member of Congress by clicking HERE or use the Congressional switchboard at (202) 224-3121.
We announce the winner of the Talking Lead Tactical Squirrel June Box, drum roll please! To continue the Talking Lead 200th episode celebration Aklys Defense puts up a new prize package for the next lucky Lead Head that answers this week's trivia question correctly.

Jansen is an avid Bear hunter. Having been on more than a dozen hunts makes him a great resource to learn about this type of Big Game Hunting. He tell us about the different types of hunts that can be done: Bear Over Bait; Spot & Stock; Bears with Hounds; Trap. In addition to explaining these different ways to hunt Bears, he also talks about the gear needed for each. Welcome back to the Talking Lead Show episode TLP 204! This week Lefty delves into The XM17 Modular Handgun System (MHS) competition. The United States Army and United States Air Force competition for a new service pistol.
With so many complaints with the Beretta 92f aka: M-9, after 2o years it was time to replace it with a more modern, more lethal, more modular handgun. For now, the M9's replacement appears to be the Sig Sauer P320. Was the "best" handgun chosen? Was the MHS competition ended prematurely? Did the Government pick price over performance again? We discuss these questions and more in this episode of Talking Lead!
Welcome back to the Talking Lead Show episode TLP 203! Starting the show off in old-style-fashion, Zeke "Squatch" Stout joins Lefty. The guys have a lot of catching up to do especially on their movies. As the are getting up-to-date on what Zeke has been up to lately with the Sonoran Desert Institute and his newest radio show Projectile Dysfunction The Gunny rolls in the Talking Lead Jackwagon Train to pick up some new Jackwagons. Our first guests are Tom Alibrando, National LE Sales Manager, for Israel Weapons Industries (IWI US, Inc) and Bill Hampstead with the Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association (FLEOA).
Tom shares some history about IWI before he gets into what Lefty really wants to talk about, the IWI Tavor X95. The X95 was developed in close cooperation with elite units of the Israel Defense Force, tailored to their specific requirements and needs. Taking cues from the Tavor TAR-21 issued to the IDF, the X95 is slim and compact with a 13" barrel and an OAL of 22.8", it is offered in 5.56 NATO, easily converted to 9mm Luger Parabellum and soon to .300 AAC. The X95 features STANAG magazine compatibility and is 100% ambidextrous to right or left hand operation with the optional opposite hand bolt. IWI even offers training courses to it's end users so they can become proficient operating, cleaning & maintaining the Tavor.
Next Adam and Lefty are joined by Chase Welch, Director of Market, at Zenith Firearms. Zenith has only been around for 3 years but have made an impression in the roller-delayed-blowback market with their HK MP5 clone, the Z-5. Zenith Firearms is an American, family owned company based in Afton, Virginia. Zenith works closely with MKE (Mechanical and Chemical Industry Corporation) of Turkey to bring the legendary reliability of roller delayed firearms to the American shooting community. Jonathan and Adam, joined by our good friend Eric "Ebbs" Ebbinghaus, give us the rundown on TGC, how they got started and where they are headed. The 2017 National Rifle Association Annual Meeting was an exciting but busy time for us. We made many new friends and got reacquainted with old ones. New friends Brady & Shawn with RITON USA Optics sit down with Lefty and tells us about this Veteran owned business and what sets them apart from other optic companies.
Brady and Shawn join Lefty as guest hosts with the next guest interview. Joe Briko with Range Systems educates us on how Range Systems' Dura-Panel™ and Dura-Bloc™ rubber composite products are used in commercial and private ranges.
Next up we run into some old friends. Talking Lead's former co-host Zeke "Squatch" Stout along with Brandon Bond (All Or Nothing Tattoo Studio) joins Lefty as he interviews Eagle Imports' competition shooters Heath & Niki Clevenger. Just like old times, when Lefty and Zeke get together shenanigans ensue but Heath and Niki hold their own. Team Clevenger talks about the Grand Power X-Calibur 9mm and we also learn that Heath has a stippling addiction.
Rounding out TLP 198 NRAAM Vol 2 Talking Lead is hosted by High Threat Concealment for this next interview with Hudson MFG. Cy and Lauren Hudson tell us the funny story behind how they came up with the revolutionary design for their low bore axis H9 pistol...there was a lot of Netflix, alcohol and disassembling of many guns involved.
Don't forget to submit your design idea for the LEAD HEAD logo. You have until the end of May to submit your designs to 1776 United. Winner gets an awesome prize package that includes a t-shirt and patch with the new logo.
