Bryan Smith is the 2016 AMA Pro Flat Track Harley-Davidson GNC1 Presented by Vance & Hines National Champion and he joins us to answer many questions about the season and the event at Santa Rosa. We will hopefully get in in-depth look at the heart of a champion who managed to complete the turn four pass to close the deal. As this was a real victory for Kawasaki as well, we will talk about that aspect with Bryan and delve into how he sees 2017 working out for he and the team on the Indian FTR750.

Ricky Howerton, Jeff Gordon, Joe Esparza and the rest of the Crosley Howerton team brought their final iteration of the Kawasaki 650 twin to the show. This event and this championship are the culmination of three years work developing the ground breaking motorcycle. Ricky will share his thoughts on that plus the entire 2016 season. We also talk to Ricky about the new Indian FTR750 the team will field going forward.

We are working on a special guest to add to this lineup.

We asked Glenn Stasky to join us on this show in an effort to learn more about aftermarket lighting for our motorcycles. The number one quote from automobile drivers after contact with a motorcycle is "I didn't see him". We discuss the benefits of truly standing out in traffic. Any number of hazards exist on the sides of the road and in the road to motorcyclist. Animals and people can walk right out in front of us at night as well as potholes in the road and a full range of items on the road that have fallen from trucks. Seeing these things early give us precious time to think and react. Great lighting can give us that time.

Glenn brings much technical information from a riders perspective that we believe is invaluable. Our goal was to avoid turning this into an infomercial and to make this show an educational tool for all of us who value excellent roadcraft. For BMW riders, we discussed how the Clearwater Lights systems interface simply and easily with CANbus.

Al Ludington, of V8R Performance in Daytona Beach, joined us to discuss the degree of difficulty in installing aftermarket lighting. In additiona to selling and installing Clearwater Lights, his shop converts Mazda Maita's from their standard 4 cylinder engines to V6 and V8 power. As it happened on the day we did this show, Al parted company with AMA Pro Racing rather unexpectedly. We discussed the temporary break in his career in professional motorcycle racing and what the future may hold for him.

Less than a week from now on September 25th at the Ramspur Winery Santa Rosa Mile presented by Triumph, Indian will return to AMA Pro Flat Track Grand National competition with their factory effort. They have tasked "Smokin' Joe Kopp with racing the all new FTR750 for the first time. We find out how that happened and how Joe feels about the motorcycle and his chance at history!

Charlie Roberts joins us with all the news from AMA Flat Track Rookies Class of 79. They are very busy helping injured riders with their life and medical expenses including Dominic Collendres. Charlie will discuss that and what they are doing at the Santa Rosa Mile as well as how you can be a part of assisting those who have become injured while entertaining us all!

Wayne Rainey is joins us for an indepth sit down conversation about MotoAmerica after their second season. In the process he makes a very big announcement concerning their spec tire partner for 2017 and beyond. 

We discussed their first year accomplishmets and moved into the things they have been able to do in their second year. Two big items on his agenda were discussed indepth. We also discussed the things that are on his to-do list going forward. With only the Yamaha Superbike Challenge of New Jersey remaining in year two of the new sanctioning body, it is an appropriate time to take a look back in the rear view mirrors and Wayne did that openly and honestly in our interview. 

Few individuals could have brought more to the KRAVE partnership than Wayne Rainey for his chosen role with the series. Having been a two time champion in AMA Superbike and a three time champion in the 500cc World Championship Rainey understands the needs of the paddock. He also has his experience as a team owner in the World Championship to draw from.

Norman Frederick Nelson is a retired Delta pilot and Naval avaitor. He will need all of his navigating and riding skills to win the 2016 Motorcycle Cannonball riding his 1911 Reading Standard motorcycle named "Steady Freddie" Norm named the bike after his father, Fred, who recently passed at 105 years old. The Reading Standard is 105 years old. Norm's plan is to ride steady and smooth while navigating the difficult coast to coast route that is the 2016 Motorcycle Cannonball. He finished third in his first Cannonball, Second in his second attempt and hopes to win in his third attempt!

Cris Sommor Simmons is in the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame. She is an author, motorcycle journalist and motorcyclist. She is again competing in the Motorcycle Cannonball on her 1915 Harley-Davidson three speed. We look forward to a great conversation when she returns to the show!

Patrick Simmons is one of the lead vocalist and guitar players of the Doobie Brothers. He has written many of their biggest hits and number one classic hits. From the beginning of his musical career and success with the Doobie Brothers he has been a natural ambassador for motorcycling. Patrick is a lover of vintage motorcycles, especially Harley Davidsons and is about to compete in his third Cannonball on his 1915 Harley Davidson. We will discuss his 50 years with the Doobie Brothers who are still going strong. Mostly we will talk about riding vintage motorcycles.

In this edition of Talking Motorcycles with Barry Boone powered by Crosley Brands we go LIVE with all three podium finishers from the 2016 Springfield Mile II! Cory Texter parted company with Richie Morris Racing and fired up his privateer effort riding the Kawasaki Vulcan powered twin to a strong third place performance at Springfield. Strong right out of the hauler, Texter served notice early in Qualiying Practice that he was going to be a factor in this one! We get his thoughts fresh off the box at Springfield.

Bryan Smith rode his Crosley Howerton Kawasaki to the lead with a holeshot and let 24.7 miles of the 25 mile Harley Davidson GNC1 presented by Vance and Hines Main Event. He never put a wheel wrong and did what Smith does by running up front from the initial start leading every lap but the one that counted. Did he know what Coolbeth's plan was? Would he do anything different if the race was ran again today? His goal for 2016 was to win every mile. This is his second Mile runner up finish of the year. This race was critical for his AMA Pro Flat Track GNC1 Championship quest. Following the New York round he was protested by Jared Mees Racing and AMA Pro certified the protest to be justified causing Smith to loose all money and points from the round. Winning the event was Springfield Mile II was his plan and he came up a little short though Mees had a mechanical that created a 17th place finsih. Now all await the Appeals Board deciision that comes by Sept 13th. 

Kenny Coolbeth rode the Zanottti Harley-Davidson XR750 flawlessly hounding Smith every lap at ever corner for the race. In turn three on the white flag lap he held the throtle open and charged up into the high groove to make the winning pass. We will discuss that pass and the race with the veteran Coolbeth who is always strong on the Miles on his XR-750!

Talking Motorcycles shines it's spotlight back on the MotoAmerica series in this edition of the show! Josh Herrin won 6 events in a row to clinch the Superbike 1000 championship at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. That creates the possibility of perhaps adding two additional wins to his season total with no pressure at NJMP. We get the back stories of his Meen Motorsports team and what the championship means to Meen!
