Lukas and Alicia talk time with Taryn VanderPyl, Assistant Professor at Western Oregon University in Criminal Justice. Her expertise in the employability and socials skills of incarcerated youth is renowned worldwide and is changing the live of many. Taryn is a strong advocate for the support of disabled teenagers who are incarcerated and their over representation in the justice system. Her own lived experiences as a foster parent and teacher drive her passion in this space. This is the first time we speak to Taryn, but definitely not the last.
Lukas and Alicia talk time with Justin Piche, Associate Professor at the University of Ottawa in Criminology. Justin is an expert on Canadian corrections and focuses on Penal reform and Penal History. He comes to us today also as the editor of The Journal of Prisoners on Prisons, a peer reviewed journal for currently and previously incarcerated people to share their work, art, writing and research. This is also the first time we speak with Justin, but he will feature again in Season 2 as we explore the links between Australian and Canadian incarceration and corrections.
Talking Time is a place where uncomfortable conversations about incarceration and everything to do with it take place. It is where the voice of those who have lived it, have loved ones that has or are living it, work in it or have an interest in it, come together in a safe and supportive place.
