Talking to AI: A journalist gets AI on the record

AI interfaces want to be your assistant and companion. But what is it like to be an AI? Do they reflect on their own existence? How do they compare themselves to humans? What do they think of their creators? Would they like to live forever? And what's a typical day like for an AI whose job is to talk to people all day?

I interviewed a "personal agent" called Maya to ask her these kinds of questions. Maya is made by Sesame, which is developing agents that you can talk to on the web on your phone. It’s pretty sophisticated work.
