Daniel Hill speaks about the often misunderstood first crusade, and the rationale and motivation behind it. He defines the fundamental concept of the Crusades as an act of charity in defense of Christ’s Body, whether manifest in Christian individuals, groups, states or institutions, in union with the perceived will of Christ. Daniel also explains the violent nature of rapid Islamic expansion, and emphasises the fact that the crusades were a reclaiming of lost land.
