Death will always be a strange thing. We live our lives, not in constant fear of death, but the reminder of what will eventually happen to all of us does have an impact on how we live our lives. Fear of forgetting is something larger, however. Humans build monuments to remember the ones we love or the people that have been impactful in our lives. Yet when we are gone, what happens when no one remembers where those monuments are? How do we cope with the eventual reality that someday no one will be left to remember who we were, what we sounded like or where we are laid to rest?
