The west. It’s magnificent peeks and shallow valleys and river basins are just the tip of the iceberg that defines the rocky region of the United States. Sometimes, the greatest stories are the ones we have forgotten.

We cannot stop fall from coming, or winter for that matter, but we can be aware of our own behaviors that contribute to them becoming harsher every year. We live in a large place, with some of the most amazing natural beauty to ever exist on this planet, but, within that beauty lies little reminders of our past and past that we sometimes just cannot seem to keep a hold of.

The presence of humans in the new world, or America, predates any European explorers by thousands of years. This was their land to begin with and we did what we have done best over the years, we stole until we got exactly what we wanted.

 When we choose to ignore our problems, when they are not on the surface, sometimes overlooked, they can have a devastating reaction. Those choices we all make, individually or collectively all make an impact on our future and sometimes, that future can be devastating.

There is something about Germanic fairy-tales that is captivating and when told right, everyone creates a similar mental picture. A castle in a far off land, a tower and a princess that is always in need of saving. The funny thing with fairy tales is that they are always some what grounded in reality. 

We continue on with some of the most unforgiving locations in the Midwest. Today we are tackling Detroit, Michigan and some of the derelict locations the city has to offer. 

The Midwest can be an unforgiving place. Dominated by rural life, it's cities became havens for the rich to build mega mansions. Yet this wealth was not always happy or fulfilling for all of the residents. This is the start of a two part episode looking at some of the most iconic abandoned locations in the Midwest. 

There are times when humanity shows the world just how cruel and insane we can be. We are excellent at becoming both the hero and the villain. Abandoned places sometimes reflect our evil, sometimes we leave places for a reason, they are intentionally abandoned. Sometimes, the truth behind why is more chilling than any fiction.

There are times where humans create places of pure joy. Amusement parks are meant to be a place of happiness and fun. The excitement of rides and games are often what draws people to these locations, yet there are examples where these places simply give up and become something darker. What happens when everyone leaves and the lights turn off? What happens with this happiness is no longer sustainable? Sometimes the greatest stories are the ones we have forgotten.
