Hey guys and welcome to another episode of Tanvir Talks! Join me, your host Tanvir, and my trusted co-host, Ehsan, in the latest Tanvir Talks episode where we discuss:Facebook banning news in Australia (3:24)Facebook recently banned sharing news in Australia. Why did they take such a drastic action? Were Facebook right to do that? Ehsan and I discuss these questions and more, like Google’s response to Australia and how publishers can earn revenue through Google and Facebook (could a model like Brave reward system work?). We also have a throw back to Europe’s terrible failed meme of a law, Article 13.What we’ve been watching (28:19)Ehsan talks about his talk that he watched by Bill Gates, How to Avoid a Climate Disaster. I talk about a more trivial show, Alice in Borderlands.Citi Bank’s $900 million blunder (38:50)Citi Bank recently lost a lawsuit trying to recoup the $900 million accidentally transferred to the wrong individuals. How and why did Citi Bank transfer $900 million to the wrong people? Terrible UI, that’s why. Also, a regular reminder that you work chats are monitored. Spotify and K-Pop disagreement (44:46)Recently Spotify and a K-Pop music distributer got into a contract dispute, meaning a large amount of K-Pop songs were removed off Spotify. Another reminder that you don’t own the music you subscribe for. Also, another shout out to Tidal, as well as Spotify Hi-Fi. Apple and Facebook fight over privacy and cookies (48:29)Facebook is in a bit of a huff with Apple about user tracking. We talk about advertisor ID’s and why you should care about them. Is tracking bad? What will happen if we stop tracking altogether for ads? Ehsan and I dig deeper. Contact me!
