Elon Musk buys Twitter

It's been a crazy couple of weeks for our favourite social media platform, Twitter. Elon Musk has signed an agreement to buy Twitter for over $40 Billion! Ehsan and I discuss what changes Elon Musk might make, how Twitter might change and what it means to have free speech on social media. 

Netflix loses 200k subscribers

Netflix lost subscribers for the first time in 10 years, Netflix stock tanked and Netflix are sad. What happens next? Is this the end for Netflix and streaming services? 

CNN+ shuts down after less than 4 weeks of operation

Another streaming service that struggled is CNN's new service CNN+. We talk about how hard it is to start a streaming service and why this one went wrong.

Elon Musk recently bought 9% of Twitter stock, and then joined the Twitter exec board and then didn't join the board...? It's been a confusing mess - but Ehsan and I break it down and explain what's going on!

Twitter has announced they'll finally add an edit button. Why has it taken them so long? Is it a good thing? Ehsan and I discuss why adding an edit button may not be that simple.

Mark Zuckerberg manic focus on the Metaverse

Recently in an interview, Mark Zuckerberg talked about how the he plans to manifest the Metaverse by having manic focus on it. Ehsan and I talk about whether the hype behind things like the Metaverse and NFTs are dying down.

UK Online Safety Act and the EU Digital Market Act

Two really big laws in Europe have huge consequences on social media and those who use it. The UK Online Safety may take tech executives to jail if they don't do what the government tells them to, while the EU is trying to open up systems so that someone on Instagram can talk to someone on iMessenger. Ehsan and I discuss why this might not be a good thing.

Russia has invaded and started a war against Ukraine. Ehsan and I discuss the cyber security implications, how there were many cyber attacks during COVID, and with war it will probably get worse. We also touch on misinformation and how the younger generation are not as computer literate and can't detect fake news on Tiktok and other social media sites.

We discuss Donald Trump's social media platform, Truth Social, and it's poor launch. Who will even use the platform? Will it last? Or will it become a Donald Trump broadcasting platform? 

Twitter adds custom content warnings

Twitter has been doing more product development! You can now warn if there is explicit content in your photos. Ehsan and I also discuss the new Samsung phones and the new Apple event.

Neil Young removes his music of Spotify due to Joe Rogan's podcasts

Niel Young has recently removed his whole music discography from Spotify in protest for Spotify not taking action against podcasters like Joe Rogan for spreading COVID misinformation. Izaan debates me and Ehsan, as Ehsan and I believe Spotify does have a responsibility to moderate Joe Rogan here while Izaan believes that Spotify does not have the responsibility to. 

NFT Monkeys have been stolen, again!

NFTs get further bad press due to bad programming on OpenSeas, which allows bad actors to buy NFTs for a super cheap price through an exploit! We discuss how this might damage the reputation of cryptocurrencies and blockchain. 

Theranos Trial

The Theranos trial is one of the biggest scandals in Silicon Valley, and recently the verdict from the trial was announced. Ehsan and I discuss what Theranos is and why they are in trial in the first place.

NFT Monkeys being stolen

I finally decide to bite the bullet and go into what NFTs are. I attempt to explain it quickly in 5 minutes, as well as talking about what this means for the wider industry of NFTs and decentralised technology. What are NFTs? Are they the future? Where does Blockchain come in this? Are they inherently bad things? There's a lot of jargon in this section, but we do our best to explain it as clearly as possible so you can follow along.
