Atia Thurman draws on more than 20 years of experience and leadership building collaborative relationships, activating positive change, and advancing equity. As a social justice educator, lecturer, and equity and inclusion fellow at Washington University in St.Louis, she facilitates experiences that help participants move through awareness, understanding, and transformation cycles. She is also a Washington University’s Mindfulness Science and Practice Cluster member. Before joining the University’s teaching faculty, Atia served as the inaugural associate director of the Clark-Fox Policy Institute, where she helped establish and steer the Institute’s mission to advance social, economic, and racial justice. During her tenure, Atia was instrumental in establishing the Graduate Policy Scholars program, championing high-quality, equitable early childhood education, and was a founding organizer of the St. Louis Racial Equity Summit. She derives motivation and joy from the power of human relationships to catalyze shared prosperity, peace, and liberation.
