As we tread the path of life, we make choices. Those choices determine who we are and decide our destiny. Some choices lead to a life of bliss and an afterlife of joy, and other choices lead to perdition. The faithful wonders every day: Am I going to end my journey on a true note? Steadfast? True to who I am and devoted to Allah (SWT), or will I lose control at the very end? Will I have a favorable or a calamitous summation of life?

If you were to ask anyone around you, young or old, they would tell you we are living in sensitive and somber times. We see our Muslim Brothers and Sisters all around the globe suffering from the decisions of Western Governments. But, even the best of human beings, the Prophet of God (SAW) faced sadness and anxiety. However, as we know, Allah (SWT) tells us “Indeed with hardship comes ease” and we see this during his lowest point. Allah (SWT) gave the Prophet (SAW) a miraculous gift at the time, which came through as the journey of Isra wal Mi’raj. What was that gift? Was it riding a majestic animal? Or was it meeting all the Messengers of God?

The Qur'an is filled with unlimited wisdom, delivered with the utmost beauty and eloquence. Some verses are heartwarming, while others come bearing instructions and commands. One of the most beloved methods of instruction that Allah (swt) employs in his final revelation is the telling of stories from the prophets of old. Not only do these stories inspire us with heroic figures, but they also teach us how to navigate our unique journeys.

Nobody wins all the time. Any successful person will tell you that they suffered more setbacks than successes. We know this as a fact of life but what does it mean for us spiritually? As believers is it possible that we suffer defeat against those who reject God? How can we accept that evil may sometimes triumph over good? Or has Allah (SWT) shown us how to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat?
