     From humble beginnings at a come-and-try night in 2017 to becoming a decorated leader and representative player, Alex Hall has helped define the rise of women’s football in northern Tasmania. As the inaugural Premiership Captain for Scottsdale in the first Tasmanian Women’s League (North) season, Alex’s leadership and grit set the tone for the region’s women’s competition. Over nearly a decade she’s captained multiple sides, earned Best & Fairest and Team of the Year honours, coached junior girls to premierships, and has been a key person in the development and growth of women’s footy. In 2025 she added another chapter, earning AFL Masters All Australian honours after representing the Northern Territory. Today we’re diving into her story, the wins, the juggle, and her bold vision for the future of women’s footy in Tasmania.

    Cameron Blight’s football story is as raw and authentic as it gets. From hitchhiking to Wynyard as a teenager for under-15 tryouts, to representing Tasmania, pulling on the Mariners, Carlton and Northern Bullant’s jumpers, and becoming a mainstay with the Tassie Devils, Blight’s career is a tale of grit, resilience and passion for the game. He played under some of the state’s great coaches, won multiple premierships with Clarence, and was recognised with William Leitch Medal honours and team of the year selections. Beyond his playing career, he’s guided teams from Smithton to Kingsborough, mentored the next generation through Hutchins School, and stamped his mark as both player and coach. This is a journey through the highs, the setbacks, and the deep love for Tasmanian footy.

  • E18- Tim Allen: The Coaching Genius Who Made Tassie Footy History

    Tim Allen is a living legend of Tasmanian football. He started his career at Bendigo in country Victoria before being recruited to East Devonport as a ruckman-forward in the late 70s. From there, his impact on Tassie footy became the stuff of folklore. He coached Queenstown to back to back premierships in 1983/1984, Penguin to the 1985 premiership, and famously led East Devonport to the 1988 flag after an extraordinary last-quarter comeback that people still talk about today.

    Known as a tough, uncompromising player and an inspirational coach, Tim’s sides always found that little bit extra under his leadership. He later became a much-loved Vice President and club legend at East Devonport, leaving behind a coaching and leadership record that stacks up against anyone in Tasmania. Simply put, Tim Allen’s name is etched into the Tassie footy story forever.

  • E17- Leigh McConnon: From Triabunna to the Big League and Back – Respected Tassie Legend

    From a  14-year-old playing senior footy in Triabunna to becoming one of Tasmania’s most respected and beloved coaches, Leigh McConnon’s story is full of success and many highs. A speedy wingman who made his mark at North Hobart before being picked up by Carlton and later Fitzroy, Leigh carved out a career that spanned over 40 years across VFL, TFL, VFA, and Super Rules.

    He’s a North Hobart premiership player, a proud Tassie rep, and a coach whose leadership and warmth have left a lasting mark on clubs including Clarence, Glenorchy, Huonville and Kingston. Twice named All Australian Super Rules Coach and selected to lead Tasmania’s Best 25 team in that space, Leigh’s legacy extends far beyond the stats — he’s known as one of the most genuine, player-loved coaches in the game.

    In this episode, we chat about his journey from country footy to the MCG, the highs and lows of coaching, and what drove his love for the game and all connected.

  • E16- From the Roos to the Bombers: Brent Dolliver’s Bold Move and Big Impact in Tassie Footy

    Today on Tassie Footy Life, we’re joined by a name well known on the local footy scene, Brent Dolliver. A life member, premiership player and bona fide legend of Dodges Ferry in the SFL, Brent has built a reputation as a passionate leader and tactical mastermind. In 2024, he stepped into the Statewide competition as assistant coach at Clarence, a role that earned him plenty of respect.

    But when the senior coach was controversially let go at season’s end, Brent made a shock move across the Eastern Shore to arch-rivals Lauderdale, taking the reins as senior coach in what would become one of the boldest transitions in recent memory.

    Fast forward to now, Brent has Lauderdale sitting top of the ladder and looking every bit the premiership favourites. He’s seamlessly combined a talented group into a red-hot, united side chasing the club’s first ever flag in the big league. It’s clear that Brent's coaching journey at Tassie’s top level is only just beginning, and what a start it’s been.

    In this episode of Tassie Footy Life, we sit down with one of Tasmania’s most revered footy minds, Tim Woodham,  a cunning tactician, a gifted mentor, and one of the most beloved figures in the Tasmanian football community.

    From his early days captaining New Norfolk’s U19s to a near move to Fitzroy, Tim's playing and coaching journey spans some of the most iconic eras in Tassie footy. Whether it was pulling on the white boots in a grand final, getting concussed and still coming back to snag a couple, or playing half-back for the first time ever in a TFL decider, Tim’s footy life is full of rich stories, strategic insight, and raw passion for the game.

    But Tim’s contribution goes far beyond the white line. Assistant coach, club legend, mentor, and always the first to back his people. He’s the bloke players wanted in their corner and clubs wanted in their camp.

    This is a celebration of the man who understood the game better than most, and who’s still helping Glenorchy and the greater footy family in any way he can.

  • E14- Andrew Lamprill: From TFL Glory to AFL Grit and a Life in Coaching

    Andrew Lamprill’s footy journey is the stuff of Tassie footy legend, tough, tested, and full of transformation. 

    After tasting premiership success with the powerhouse 1990 Hobart TFL team, he was snapped up by Melbourne in the AFL draft, bringing his talent and tenacity to the big stage. 

    A spectacular first goal with his first AFL kick hinted at big things to come, but injuries would cruelly interrupt his momentum. 

    Despite setbacks, Lamprill carved out a respected AFL career, particularly in defence, before turning his focus to coaching — from Vermont in Victoria to Hobart and now leading the Hutchins Old Boys in Tassie’s Old Scholars league. 

    Add to that his standout showing at the 2008 Masters Carnival in Darwin — where he earned All Australian honours — and you’ve got a bloke who’s truly lived and breathed every side of the game.

    Today on Tassie Footy Life, we’re joined by a true legend of the local game, a man whose footy journey has taken him from the big stage of the AFL Grand Final to the heart and soul of grassroots footy here in Tasmania.

    Ben Beams made his AFL debut with Melbourne in 1999, was part of their 2000 Grand Final side, and went on to carve out a stellar career with the Tasmanian Devils in the VFL, where he captained the side and earned multiple representative honours. But his impact didn’t stop there. As a coach, he's inspired and led teams from Myrtleford to University to Glenorchy, and guided University to a memorable premiership in 2016.

    In 2015, Ben was inducted into the Tasmanian AFL Hall of Fame, cementing his place in Tassie footy history. He’s known for his smart footy brain, elite skills, gritty, playing style, and commitment to the game, both on and off the field.

    We’ll be diving into the highs, the hurdles, and what still drives him today.

From player stints at Hobart, North Hobart and Sandy Bay, to premiership glory as both assistant and head coach at Clarence, Kingston and Sandy Bay, and more recently stepping back into coaching after a long hiatus, Grant’s story is one of dedication, leadership, and evolving with the game. Whether from the bench or the boundary, he’s shaped generations of Tasmanian football talent — and he’s still going strong.
