This week the Buds are sitting down with Armenian-American comedian, actor, writer, producer, and professional family-business exposer Mary Basmadjian! 🎙️

For the last 15 years, Mary has turned immigrant culture, dating, family trauma, mental health, and the beautifully unhinged Armenian experience into comedy. You might know her as the Funny Armenian Girl, or as Vartoush Tota, the leopard-print, acrylic-nailed Armenian auntie the internet didn’t know it needed.

Mary tells the Buds about getting in trouble for getting tattooed, cutting her teeth in comedy, and how creating Vartoush became more than just making people laugh. The character actually helped her work through and heal parts of her own story while making a whole lot of other people feel seen along the way.

They also get into the joys of haters on the internet, what happens when your comedy hits a little too close to home, and Mary shares one of her most painfully awkward moments on stage.
