The secret to having peace of mind in the worst of times is by praying right and thinking right. This peace of mind is not to be viewed as some pie in the sky approach to life. It does not mean that our life is going to be a rose garden. It does not mean that will that we will not endure trying times. Peace of mind does not deny the existence of anxieties or worries. Instead, our text tells us what to do with anxiety and worry and how to have peace of mind.

Asaph records the feelings of every person in the middle of a crisis. These feelings are recorded as six questions to which he seeks the answers. So, while in a time of crisis, we are going to see Asaph did to overcome these feelings and gain confidence in times of crisis.

We are in a war against an invisible enemy. Except the enemy to which I refer is not a virus but worry. This worry or anxiety is a feeling of being powerless and unable to cope with threatening events. How many believers, facing the current world circumstances, have found themselves overwhelmed by worry or anxiety? What is a believer to do? How can we cope with these unknowns and not be overcome with worry?

In Psalm 13, David offers up a prayer to God in which He expresses his personal struggles as he experiences very difficult circumstances. While we do not know the specific circumstances to which David refers, his prayer is nonetheless timely in light of our current situation. I believe that Psalm 13 is the perfect example of how we can pray in difficult times…

Most of us have sat in the waiting room at the doctor’s office. You sit there for what seems like an eternity only to look at your watch and only five minutes have passed. No one like to wait for anything. We do not want to wait in line, for service, or for food. We want what we want and we want it now. Therefore as believers when we are commanded to wait on the Lord, it is one of the most exhortations of Scripture. It is difficult because we want to take matters into our own hand and follow our own plans.
