  • 2020 Chair's Award Recipient Kevin Caldwell

    On this episode of the podcast, we are joined by Kevin Caldwell of Caldwell Tree Care to discuss his career, his service on the Board of Directors, and much more.

    Kevin is the president and owner of Caldwell Tree Care, located in Roswell, Georgia. He graduated from the University of Georgia in 1987 with a Bachelor’s in Political Science. After graduation he secured a position at TruGreen, beginning as a Residential Salesman. He went to work for ArborGuard in 1991 and while there he met mentors there who helped to grow his commitment to, and knowledge of, the tree care industry. This led to his becoming an ISA Certified Arborist in 1992. And in 1993, he left in order to found Caldwell Landscape Company, now doing business as Caldwell Tree Care.

    Kevin has served on the boards of several organizations, including the Georgia Urban Forestry Council (now known as the Georgia Tree Council), the Metro Atlanta Landscape & Turf Association, and the Georgia Turfgrass Association. Additionally, he has served on the TCIA Board of Directors and served as Chairman of the Board in 2012-2013.

    Additionally, Kevin was the recipient of the 2020 Chair's award for his friendship, support, and belief in the previous Chair, Mundy Wilson Piper.

  • 2020 Pat Felix Volunteer of the Year Tim Bushnell

    On this episode of the podcast, we are joined by Tim Bushnell of the Davey Tree Experts to discuss his career, his commitment to safety, and much more.

    Tim has been an ISA Certified Arborist since ‘92 and a TCIA CTSP since ‘09. He chaired the ANSI A300 Committee and participated as a voting member in current and previous ANSI Z133 revisions. Tim has been certified by Petzl America as a Competent Person regarding PPE, he is also a competent person in climbing/ rigging gear inspections to the United Kingdom standards (LOLER). Most recently, Tim became a SPRAT Level 1 Technician.

  • Building a Personal Board of Directors with Rebecca Johnson

     In this episode, we are joined by Rebecca Johnson of Arborholic, LLC, Kristy Hiller, Vice President of Administration at TCIA, and Amanda Gazlay, coordinator of Member Engagement at TCIA to discuss creating your own personal board of directors. Finding mentors and people to be on your board is not a one size fits all process, we dive into the various ways one can go about finding the right set of people.

    Rebecca is an International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Certified Arborist and addicted to helping trees and the people who care for them. She serves on the Board of Directors for the Texas Chapter of ISA, Chairs the Texas ISA education committee, and is a private consulting arborist, teaching homeowners about proper tree care.  She also works with the City of Austin to provide tree education to City employees whose work brings them into contact with trees, with the goal of improving tree care across the city.
