The Bible tell us to love the Lord with all of our hearts, all of our souls, and all of our minds; its not based on feeling, emotions or circumstances. Its not based on anything we base human love on. Loving God is a command of the will; we direct our will to love God. Gods presence is far beyond our feelings. God is sovereign, and we direct ourselves to the Sovereign, no matter whats going on. The scriptures also tell us to love our neighbors as ourselves, but were not able to love our neighbor well until we first love God like were supposed to. (Part 2 of 2)
