We receive continuous solicitation to buy things, do things, be something or somebody. The choices we make define us and have huge significance in our lives. Sometimes it seems as though God is unreasonable in his demands. For instance, he commands that we rejoice. That’s fine in the good times, but what about when our world is collapsing? Rejoice? That may seem too much to ask. But God never asks us to do something that he doesn’t enable us to do. There are “joy busters” in our lives that prevent experiencing joy. Entrance exams can be unnerving. Your future is hanging in the balance. Have you ever thought about God’s entrance exam? How do you get into his family? How do you gain entrance into heaven. That’s one exam you want to pass. The apostle Paul will shed light on this critical issue.

The Gospel calls us to Christlikeness in all that we do. We have an excellent example in the life of Christ of what selflessness, humility, obedience and sacrifice is all about. True joy will be the result of us putting on the nature of Christ.

Paul went through sufferings and imprisonment for the sake of the gospel. Yet he rejoiced knowing that it brought boldness to the believers and the gospel was advanced. He concluded that by life or death Christ would be magnified in his body and that was a reason to rejoice! Maybe we have lost the joy in the gospel because we have lost the victory in suffering. Let us follow the example that Paul left for us to rejoice in all circumstances!
