Welcome back to Season 2 of our TeamTalk podcast. This season, we are talking to thought leaders, customers and stakeholders from the world of sport and physical exercise as we dive deeper into volunteering and the volunteer managers who make it happen.

In this episode, Chris and Imo are joined by Alaina MacGregor (Chief Executive) and Philippa Bass (Sports Participation Officer) from British Blind Sport.

British Blind Sport aim to ensure that sport and leisure facilities are accessible to every blind or partially sighted person in the UK, with the intention of improving their physical health and self-esteem.

Adults and children are encouraged to participate at whatever level they choose be it grassroots or up to international competitive level.

Blind and partially sighted people who enter competitions nationally and internationally need a sight classification. British Blind Sport provide this service to enable competitive participation on a fair and equal basis.

This first episode in this latest series sees us chatting to Jenny Betteridge, Strategic Lead for Volunteering at Sport England. A national public-funded organisation with a mission to enable everyone to benefit from sport and activity. Jenny has most recently been working on the Vision for Volunteering which was launched very recently at the Volunteer Expo.

Jenny is joined by Gethyn Williams and James Allen who undertook the market engagement that made the Vision possible. 

In this episode, we discuss how this work was conducted, what its ambitions are and what it is hoped it leads to for the future of volunteering.

The Project Mobilising Volunteers Across Manchester

A Partnership Looking to Make Volunteering Easier for Everyone (Part Two)

In our fourth episode, we chat to Andy Broomhead - Head of Volunteering at Diabetes UK, board member at AVM. Chris and Andy discuss how he got into his current roles, the challenges he's faced (both as head of volunteering and as a volunteer himself), and navigating the COVID-19 pandemic. 

Diabetes UK is the leading charity for people living with diabetes in the UK. Their aim is to prevent Type 2 diabetes, campaign for and support everyone affected by diabetes, and fund research that will one day lead to a cure.

The Association of Volunteer Managers (AVM) is an independent membership body that aims to support, represent and champion people in volunteer management in the UK regardless of field, discipline or sector. It has been set up by and for people who manage volunteers.

We've worked with them on various projects over the years, but we finally made our partnership official in 2021. We became the first corporate partner of AVM and ⁠we were thrilled⁠!

Continuing the Legacy of the Suffragettes

In our second episode, we chat to Abi Froud from The Pankhurst Trust. Chris and Abi talk about the amazing work done by Manchester Women's Aid within The Pankhurst Trust.

The Pankhurst Trust brings together Manchester Women’s Aid and The Pankhurst Centre. They work together to ensure the powerful story of the women who won the vote continues to inspire us all to challenge gender inequality, and to ensure that those suffering from domestic violence and abuse get the confidential help they need.
