Tearing down my past

Listen Later

Tearing down my past

I almost drove straight into the ditch

Uttered a barely audible son-of-a-bitch

To no one in particular

Another golden page from a better long gone day

Dismantled and razed cause they have to make way

Tears are falling in my car

My whole family was a part of this place

Those folks always had a smile on their face

Downtown Fussville farm

While progress creates many pretty things

There’s a heavy sadness in my heart it brings

Cause they can’t match the charm

My mom and dad were very close friends

I pulled my phone and adjusted the lens

Not easy to do while you’re driving and crying

So many new places, but they all look the same

Countless new faces, I’m sad yet happy I came

The memories live on, though the buildings are dying

Mom always said one day I would miss

All of these things, we’re left to reminisce

Cherish the days make the memories last

Hold on to each other, hold that thought so tight

Progress be damned, nothing about it feels right

All I see is them tearing down my past
