Regina Reithii, Upendo’s President and Founder was born and raised in Nakuru, Kenya. Regina has been

a proud Delawarean for the last 20 years and is a passionate advocate for children's empowerment.

Growing up in Kenya’s Rift Valley in the ’80s and ’90s exposed Regina to life-changing experiences having

witnessed the horrors of political violence- as her hometown, Nakuru was hard hit. While incidents of

serious political violence have reduced, previously impacted areas continue to experience lingering

effects and security and economic uncertainties.

Over the last 18 years, juggling roles as a student and a single parent, Regina has directly supported over 145 orphans by paying for their education and sponsoring their basic needs, as well as those of their immediate family members. Through Regina’s leadership, Upendo is supporting 145 orphans on a full-time basis with a goal to expand their outreach to 500 children by end of 2025.

Regina is passionate about empowering children through education and imparting income-generating skills. While her efforts are currently focused on making a difference in Nakuru, Kenya; her goal is to extend the outreach to other parts of the country.

Danny Covey lives in Embrun, Ontario, Canada with his beautiful wife, Carly, and their three children— Grant, Layla, and Carter. Danny is a creative renaissance man, who works as a graphic designer, illustrator, marketer, art instructor, and amateur video producer. 

Danny’s parents joked that he was born with a pencil in his hand and, from a young age, he was drawing and entertaining anyone who would pay attention. Despite having a good sense of humor, things haven't always been easy. 

Danny has faced many trials throughout his life. Beginning at eighteen months old, he underwent four open heart surgeries and four invasive heart-related procedures, which have left pronounced physical and psychological scar tissue on his body and in his mind. He nearly died on the operating table three times and was repeatedly told that he would never be able to excel physically. Yet, after much grit and prayer, Danny earned a black belt in jiu-jitsu and continues training today. His great accomplishment came on the heels of having his ruptured descending aortic arch replaced in 2017. 

Danny’s story is a miracle — a story he is thankful to be able to share today!

The new documentary film “An Unimportant Girl”  is the remarkable story of Vivianne Knebel’s journey from despair to gratitude.  Based on her memoir, "From Rubble To Champagne,” which has been featured in both the local and national media, “An Unimportant Girl” tells Vivianne’s story.

Born illegitimate in 1943 in the epicenter of Nazi power, Berlin, Germany, Vivianne’s free-spirited and strong-willed mother, Marija, fought to keep her alive among falling bombs and Soviet attacks. After the end of World War II, with much of Berlin razed to the ground, Vivianne came to know poverty and constant hunger. As a teenager, she immigrated to Canada, but in her new homeland, times became so desperate that she had to beg for money to eat. After dropping out of school to find work, Vivianne became the victim of sexual harassment. Spiraling into depression, she attempted to take her life but was miraculously saved by a six-year-old child. “An Unimportant Girl,” tells a story of challenges overcome and a life fully lived.
