The issue of book banning is exploding across this country. Parents, activists, and lawmakers all demand the removal of certain books from schools, universities, and even public libraries.

The American Library Association has said that it received an unprecedented 330 reports of book challenges last fall.

The tactics and objections of these challenges are pushing many to oppose the removal of some books, saying it violates the rights of those who want access to them.

Recently the Penguin Random House CEO pledged to donate thousands to the free speech organization PEN America in an effort to combat book banning.

What do the authors think about this recent phenomenon?

Award-winning author Gerald Everett Jones finds it striking and potentially harmful.

Bruce Olav Solheim was born in Seattle, Washington, to Norwegian immigrant parents. Bruce was the first person in his family to go to college. He served for six years in the US Army as a jail guard and later as a warrant officer helicopter pilot and is a disabled veteran. He also worked as a defence contractor with Boeing for five years. Bruce earned his Ph.D. in history from Bowling Green State University in 1993.

Bruce is a distinguished professor of history at Citrus College in Glendora, California. He was a Fulbright Professor and Scholar in 2003 at the University of Tromsø in northern Norway. Bruce has published twelve books and has written ten plays, six of which have been produced. The Bronze Star won two awards from the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival. The Epiphany was commissioned by the Kingdom of Norway and funded for a full production run with the original American cast.

Bruce is a co-founder of Lockdown Theatre which has produced four-stream plays (online, live, with remote actors) during the COVID-19 pandemic. He has lived a paranormal life since age four having experienced angels, demons, ghosts, cryptids, telepathy, psychokinesis, mediumship, and alien contact.

Bruce has published a trilogy of paranormal books about his personal paranormal experiences: Timeless, Timeless Deja Vu, and Timeless Trinity, and most recently published a book about his contact with an ancient alien mystic—Anzar the Progenitor.

Bruce has also published two comic books featuring an alien hybrid character named Snarc and will publish a new comic book called Dr. Jekyll Alien Hunter in 2022. Bruce is married to Ginger and has four children and two grandsons.

Jeff Rasley is the author of thirteen books; the most recent is A Pickleball Soap Opera: Love, Murder, and Pickleball. He has published numerous articles in academic and mainstream periodicals, including Newsweek, Chicago Magazine, ABA Journal, Family Law Review, The Journal of Communal Societies, and Friends Journal.

He is an award-winning photographer and his pictures taken in the Himalayas and Caribbean and Pacific islands have been published in several journals.

He has appeared as a featured guest on over 100 radio and podcast programs.

Rasley has engaged in social activism and philanthropic efforts from an early age.  In high school, he co-founded the Goshen Walk for Hunger.

In law school, he was an advocate for renters' rights as the leader of the first rent strike in Indiana, and he served as a lobbyist and president of the Indianapolis Tenants Association. As an attorney for the Legal Services organization, he was lead counsel on two class-action suits on behalf of prisoners which resulted in judgments requiring the construction of two new jails in Central Indiana. Jeff founded free legal clinics at two inner-city churches. He was the lead plaintiff in a class action requiring the clean-up of the White River after it was polluted by an industrial chemical spill. He spent five days working for NOLA Habitat for Humanity post-Katrina. Jeff is the founder and former president of the Basa Village Foundation USA, which raises money for culturally sensitive development work in the Basa area of Nepal.

He also served a term as president of Scientech, which promotes science education. Jeff is a director of five other nonprofit organizations. In December 2020 the Rasleys founded the Jeff and Alicia Rasley Internship Program for the ACLU of Indiana.

He is a U.S. liaison for the Nepal-based Himalayan expedition company, Adventure GeoTreks Ltd. He has taught classes for IUPUI Continuing Ed. The program, Indiana Writers Center, and Butler and Marian Universities.

He has been admitted to the Indiana, U.S. District Court, and U.S. Supreme Court Bars.
