In this episode of Tech Intersect, I speak with Dante Disparte, vice chairman and head of policy and communications for the Libra Association, an independent membership organization focused on creating a stablecoin that supports a financially-inclusive digital future. He is also the founder and chairman of Risk Cooperative and serves on the Federal Emergency Management Agency's National Advisory Council.
Now one year into the LibraCoin Project, Dante and I delve into an illuminating conversation about its evolution, current status as of May 2020, the Facebook privacy controversy and testimony before the United States Congress and regulatory landscape, and plans for the fall 2020 launch in the United States and beyond to empower the unbanked and underbanked around the world. And our discussion takes place in the midst of the COVID19 pandemic, which has helped make the case even more clear cryptographically secured digital, user-directed, low cost, contactless payments.

There’s a more cost effective and time-efficient way to reach your leading-edge learning and earning goals, to put you ahead of the stiff competition in this fast-paced, tech-driven economy.
Considering the broken state of ‘higher’ education, there has to be a better way. The fact is, traditional education costs too much, takes too long, and offers no guarantees of a job upon graduation. You need skills. Credentials. An advantage.

In this episode of Tech Intersect, I speak with Arlan Hamilton, founder and managing partner of the venture capital firm, Backstage Capital. Arlan built this fund from the ground up, while experiencing homelessness. Literally. Backstage Capital addresses funding disparities in tech by investing in high-potential underestimated founders (people of color, women, and/or members of the LGBTQ community. Started from scratch, Backstage has now raised more than $7 million and invested in more than 130 startup companies led by underestimated founders.
See amazing Arlan’s fireside chat with Shontavia Johnson and me during the Phoenix Rising Summit: Crisis-Proof Your Career & Monday (4/19/2020) with some never-before shared insights, experiences and encouraging words (streaming replay access for the entire event that includes this chat available for purchase at PhoenixRisingSummit.com).
She also hosts the Your First Million Podcast and recently launched two long-anticipated projects. Her first book, It’s About Damn Time (business/inspiration/self-help), hits the shelves on May 5th. And she recently launched her informative and invaluable course, Raising Capital for Your Company from Scratch via Teachable. Tech Intersect listeners receive 50% off the course with the code TECHINTERSECT (now $360, $900 beginning May 5th).
Some takeaways from this episode and It’s About Damn Time: Decision points matter. And so do relationships, authenticity, a positive intention in everything you do and a dogged determination to see your life beyond your present circumstances. Use Arlan’s journey and book as a source of encouragement, inspiration and information. Please share your thoughts ahas and selahs in the comments. And as you read the book, share your favorite parts and how you plan to turn being underestimated into your greatest advantage!

In this episode, I welcome Andrew Hinkes, an attorney with Miami-based law firm Carlton Fields working in the firm's National Blockchain and Digital Currency practice. He is also a co-founder and the General Counsel of Athena Blockchain, a professional services firm focused on tokenized investments.
We discuss what Bitcoin and blockchain are, about other cryptocurrencies including stablecoins and government issued digital fiat, and regulations and regulators in the United States and around the world, given that public, permissionless blockchains--the rails that support the issuance of many cryptographically-secured tokens of value--are borderless. We also talk about what a "crypto lawyer" is and does.
Previously nominated as one of Coindesk’s Most Influential People in Blockchain in 2017, Drew is frequently quoted and cited in articles related digital assets and blockchain technology, and regularly speaks at legal, industry, and academic conferences. Drew’s areas of expertise focus on legal and business issues related to public network cryptocurrency systems, decentralized system governance, and legal and ethical issues related to cryptocurrency systems. Time to LISTEN, LEARN and LEVERAGE. So let’s get started.
