Discussion about this event and the Iberia Mental Health Initiative. In light of the recent high profile suicides, and to educate the public on what can be done to prevent suicide, the Iberia Mental Health Initiative is hosting a free public program, "Safe Talk", presented by Cynthia Elmer, state Chair of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
This 3 to 4 hour presentation will prepare anyone 15 years or older, regardless of prior experience or training, to become a suicide alert helper. The program will enable a person to recognize someone thinking of suicide and take action to connect them with life-saving intervention and resources.
This free public program will be held on Saturday, June 30,2018, from 10:30 AM to 1:30 PM at the Parkview Branch Library at 500 Grand Pre' Boulevard, off Parkview Drive in New Iberia.
Pre-registration is requested to ensure an adequate amount of materials for participants. The link for pre-registration is: https://afsp.wufoo.com/forms/zrnt54u1fefwto/
Please help spread the word about the "Safe Talk" program dealing with the very serious issue of suicide.
