Executive presence isn't just for executives. The aspects we recognize as showcasing executive presence in those we admire are aspects we can all be mindful of and practice to boost our own career potential. We can demonstrate executive presence in both F2F and online-WFH environments, so it's important to understand what to do, what to look for, and how to develop your presence in your own engagements.

If planning a presentation means sitting down with PowerPoint and typing your thoughts directly into a slide deck, this episode is for you. Like countless other professionals, you begin with your own thoughts and your planning largely includes translating those thoughts into text on your slides. However, we know the outcome of this sort of plan leads to less-than-optimal outcomes. Audiences don't resonate with slides full of text. Even worse, cognitive science demonstrates that our brains can't even process that text efficiently while simultaneously listening to live speech. In this episode, you'll learn a better way to plan for better presentation outcomes. Learn what cognitive science has taught us about how audiences take in, process, and retain information in our presentations. You'll walk away with a new way to plan your next talk and a new way to connect with your audience.
In our final part of episode 1, we hear the story of Mary, whose reluctance to tell her own story was what brought her to work with TechForum. As Mary's story shows, we can't let the feelings and insecurities we have about our audience paralyze us from affectively communicating with them. Listen to Mary's story to hear what finally drove her to do something different.
Each episode in A Tale of Three Professionals follows someone who struggled to connect with his audience. These three professionals represent real people, but are emblematic of common issues many professionals - especially highly technical ones - often deal with. In this episode, we hear the story of Larry, an energetic and innovative engineer who desperately wants to get the attention of his management and push his projects forward.
Part B of Episode 1 takes us back to A Tale of Three Professionals, and this time the focus is on Harry. Harry is an expert among experts, and he doesn't think he needs to change anything about his communication style or skillset. Fortunately for him, his company thinks otherwise. Hear what happens to Harry as he reluctantly works with Christine in preparation for a company-wide all-hands meeting.
