This week we get to catch up with the PhlatBoyZ, Mark and Trish Carew, to learn of the progress on the latest PhlatPrinter design, the MK3. This new machine is getting very close in transition from prototype to final product, and the list of features is mind-boggling! Just when you think that the PhlatBoyZ concept of "Quality CNC for the average Joe" can't get any better, IT DOES!

The e-QSC project finally comes to a close this week with a total of thirteen videos shot and uploaded to YouTube, including the maiden flight of the low-winged 'sport' version. Have you been building along with me? If so, submit photos of your finished project to me (via email) by no later than August 15th, 2010. I'll post all photos received to AllThingsCrash so that our listeners can view them and vote for their favorite. If your plane is chosen as "Listener's Choice", I'll send you a motor and ESC (the ones I specified for use on this plane) for your next project! And finally, a link not discussed on this show, but promised in the last of the e-QSC Build Videos - the greatest Covering Tutorial I've seen to date!

In this 75th installment (75 already??), after we get a few little news items out of the way, we get to hang out a bit with fellow PhlatClub member Shaun "3Dmon" Frank. We learn that Shaun, a capable 3D pilot as well as apt RC Aircraft designer, has created a website for the sole purpose of sharing his wares with the world!

Additionally, I've uploaded videos #9 and #10 of the e-QSC build where I cover some pushrods information, mounting the wing to the fuselage, and building and mounting the empennage. Have you started YOUR e-QSC yet?

It's been a busy week in the workshop! LOL Please join us this week for some information on a couple of upcoming events and news on some new products now available. Our buddy, the RCadvisor (Carlos), is backagain this week to discuss the potential use of Carbon in place of balsa parts, too.

The meat of this week's broadcast? Well, the Scratch-building Club has officially started! This week, we build the wing for the e-QSC! The total PDF Plans and Templates package is available on my site, and the first four video tutorials to help you along are on YouTube (links below).

Additionally, I have created a new "Listener's Stuff" section to the support site (AllThingsCrash.com) so that I have a place to show off the photos of the cool stuff you guys send in to me! If you've got an interesting build you want to share with everyone (whether it's a balsa or foam build), send in your pics and I'll get them posted!!

In this 71st installment, we discuss Dorsal's progress and newest acquisitions, a cool site I found (cardboard? REALLY?), Larry's Blue Foam Wonder (as featured in Park Pilot magazine!),  the RCadvisor talks a bit about scaling down airplanes, and I offer up a couple more great suppliers of balsa kits (for Corey from last week's show).

As well, the cat is out of the bag! I've been kicking around the concept of online tutorials to help more people discover the magic that is balsa, but Fred (a very talented balsa builder) lit the fire beneath me so we're off. It's gonna be a great summer!!

   Four - 3/16" x 3/16" x 36" balsa sticks

   One - 1/4" x 1/4" x 36" balsa stick

   Three - 1/16" x 4" x 36" balsa planks

   Five - 1/8" x 4 x 36" balsa planks

   One - piece of 6" x 6" x 1/8" Lite Ply

   If your budget allows, pick up a small sheet of 1/32" ply, too. It's great for strengthening!

Buying the sizes I've shown above, you'll have some scrap left over. I actually used quite a few 3" wide planks, but rather than make the list too confusing, I've just shown 4" stock. It's better to have some left over for another project than to be short and have to postpone your building session!

If you do NOT have a local hobby shop to get this stuff from, head on over to one of my favorite foam vendors that now sells balsa at very reasonable prices - RCFoam!

In our 70th show, we dip into the ol' mailbag and share some listener emails. We talk a bit about engine tuning, some "real" kit suggestions, and some Desktop CNC options. Also, Carlos tells us about some things to consider when doubling the size of a model. Oh, and is there a hint in the air of something new and cool on the horizon? Hmmm....
