In this module, we will explore the two basic areas of law that deal with risk: tort law and contract law. These will be foundational for the rest of the unit.

In this module, we will conclude Unit 1 by looking at law and the state, and the limits of what we can do with them. The first half of the module, we'll look at practical limitations on what we can do with the law. In the second half, we'll look at the various regulatory actors that exist both within the United States, as well as competition between the United States and other countries.

In this module, we're going to begin thinking about what the law is and how concepts of what the law is relate to technology

This module will give you an understanding of the state that we will build on for the rest of the course, and how that state derives its power

This week, we will lay the foundations for our course by exploring several key examples in the field of engineering ethics.
