I will be at Vidcon 2017 to not only learn, but pass on my knowledge of creating online content. As a podcaster and video creator with 10 years of social experience, I am excited to grow my presence and build the skills I still lack.

Geekazine Offers Some Tips for Vidcon

Here are my tips before heading out:

* Know the Lay of the Land – Did you know there is a Target only 4 blocks away? Great place to get supplies if you need them. Especially rain ponchos.

* Shuttles are the Best Transportation – Cabs and Uber can become expensive from the Airport. You can get on a Shuttle to your hotel for a lot cheaper. Keep in mind to book 24 hours in advance.

* Charging – I bring a lot of batteries. The one I rely on most is my Tough Tested 8,000 mAh charger. It can charge the phone several times in a day.

* Snacks and Water – Keep hydrated and have a snack in your bag. You never know when you will use it.

* Use Your Own Bag – I use the Case Logic Kontrast Backpack (http://go.redirectingat.com/?id=20383X779049&xs=1&url=http%3A%2F%2Famzn.to%2F2ri8aGp&sref=rss). I can spot this bag in a sea of Vidcon bags.

* Check your Blood Pressure – You don’t want to collapse in front of a bunch of YouTubers. Make sure you’re healthy coming into this event.

* Business Cards – Don’t let anyone tell you they are not worth it. I make more connections with cards than anything.

* Have Fun – You are there to learn, but also there to experience an event. Make sure you spend a few hours soaking in the event.

Action Comics Introduced Superman

1938 – It is one of the geekiest days for people like me. Creators Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster introduced one of the comic heros in Action Comics. Interesting enough, Superman was suppose to be a bad guy.

The first form of him appeared in “Science Fiction #3” in 1933. He looked more like Lex Luthor than the caped crusader. But with a little re-tooling, Superman made the comics and a piece of geek history.

June 13, 1993: Microsoft and Time-Warner Create Interactive TV

1993 – Microsoft teamed up with Tele-communications and Time Warner to start the revolution known as “Interactive TV”. The ability to buy product right through the set during a show. iTV would give users a Digital Set Top Box in which they would use to browse, go back and watch video. It even connected to a telephone to let you know who is calling and possibly get SMS messages.

1997 – Back in February, it was announced that US Robotics be acquired by 3Com Corporation in a $6.6 billion stock swap. This would add to 3Com’s computer networking company against Cisco as they would become the second largest networking company.

The merger did go through a series of corporate evaluations before the shareholders agreed to the merger.

Eventually, Hewlett-Packard acquired 3Com in 2010 and the companies products were merged into the HP name.

June 11, 1980: Steve Ballmer is hired as Microsoft’s first Business Manager

1980 – Otherwise known as “The 24th Man” (to join Microsoft, that is), Steve Ballmer came on as Microsoft’s first Business Manager. He made only $50k and stock options. Of course 30 years later, Steve succeeded Bill Gates as CEO of the Redmond based software company.
