On this week's edition of the show, the team is taking back to their school days by a story of a young Muslim freshman getting arrested for bringing homemade tech to school. Schools often lack behind technological knowledge, and our nation struggles with issues of equality. However, it is important to remind ourselves that folks like Ahmed literally make the future. Facebook is using that future to try and create an empathy button. Amazon is trying to carve a future where the FireTV doesn't get eaten by the Apple TV, and Nintendo charts their future path by appointing a new CEO. Also, Xerox Parc makes the past real with self-destructing chips. It's all really one step forward and two steps back. 

This week, Apple had its announcement, and we have some thoughts. To summarize them, run outside your home or place of work a cry out with rage and frustration. This will capture adequately how we feel - not about the device, but about how Apple talks about them. Each of the devices, even the iPad Pro, look like sold pieces of kit. They also look remarkably like the Surface Pro 3, Roku 3, and iPhone 6 in turn. In addition, Microsoft is selling Surface more places, and Verizon wants to roll out 5G - someday. Someday, maybe we will calm down. 

IFA, the big European consumer electronics trade show, is going on in Berlin, so we are flooded with hot smart watches that look appealing, Sony phone that look appealing but no one will buy, and sweet gaming hardware only Trey and Europeans care about. Also, Apple might be making their own content. Hulu gives us an ad-free version of their content, and the President makes content with a selfie stick. A selfie stick! I want no part of this world. 

You know those times in your life where you swear you will not be like your parents or those people you grew up with but then you end up taking up golf or running an Italian restaurant anyways? Well, Samsung sure does. After they screwed up making the stylus for the Note 5, they basically told their user, "Hey, you're holding it wrong," - just like Steve Jobs. They have come full circle. In a way, so did Apple this week. By claiming to revolutionary, every time they do a minor hardware update, we get super excited. Google, too, heart of innovation has to rip off feature from a small scrappy upstart to breathe new life into their once scrappy upstart. In short, we all will end up our parents. 

The theme for this week's news is clearly - thing that we do not want. We do not want Amazon employees to be abused, but they are. We do not want Intel to be designing giant robotic spiders, but frighteningly enough, they really are. We, also, do not want Ashley Madison to even be a thing, but it still is - at least its database is out there. We do not want an endless string of Apple rumors, but they are starting to spin up again. Finally, we do not want a bi-pedal robot that can chase us, but Google, in its infinite cyborg intelligence, has made one. Maybe, we just want out of this tech game. 

The tech industry seems to struggle to make themselves comprehensible to the average consumer. On this episode, the that struggle seems to be realer than ever. Samsung releases two version of the same basic phone with like six levels of mixed up branding. Google becomes Alphabet but also because a subsidiary of Alphabet. Tinder has made the world of dating even more a mind field for woman, and Google/NASA has a drone that can hunt you.....I mean deliver to you at over 100mph. Bless their engineering hearts.

Since Black Hat gets covered in this show, it is another one where you will want to hide under your desk and hope that protects you. Teslas, home WiFi, Android fingerprint scanning, and probably hundreds of other things were revealed to be vulnerable. Also, Black Hat itself was shown to vulnerable to the revelations of Edward Snowden as one of their keynotes struck a decidedly anti-government tone. If Gamescom is any indication, Sony may soon be vulnerable to a resurgent Xbox One. Twitter may make themselves vulnerable of no longer being Twitter, and ICANN may soon be less vulnerable to USA government control - as long as the Republicans don't get in the way. Good luck with all of that. 

Shortly before we went to air, we received the actually news of this week. I'm not talking about Windows 10, which did come out to critical acclaim and a relatively smooth upgrade process. I'm also not talking about the details of Ouya's acquisition or the trove of new Motorola phones. No, I'm talking about Amazon hiring the Top Gear guys to be on a streaming only show! Richard Hammond, Jeremy Clarkson, and James May will be on Amazon with, presumably, a motoring show in 2016. Stop the presses and all that. This is the real news. 

Things get hacked all the time - big things, small things, mission critical things. This week, it's cars and sex lives. Some hackers figured out how to remote access some Chrysler products and make them stop on the highway. Other hackers figured out how to ruin lives by complete hacking the parent company of cheating website Ashley Madison and sex tourism site Established Gentlemen. Additionally, Google has hacked your life and knows everywhere you've been, and we may finally have someone else to hack with a drastic increase in funds for the search for aliens. Happy hacking - everybody. 

It is not often when the death of a technology executive leads to an outpouring of intense emotion around the industry, but the late Satoru Iwata, President of Nintendo, has evoked just such a response. He was beloved for his enthusiasm, his love of games, and his focus on making games more accessible. The gaming industry is better off because of what he did and who he was. Other places in the tech world are not so better off. Windows is forcing updates. Google wants more of your money, and Reddit continues to complicate itself. Let's not forget, however, that just like Iwata, Pluto has a heart - even if its not a planet.
