Techstination

Techstination, your destination for gadgets and gear.   I’m Fred Fishkin.       It has been 15 years since Dr. David Albert….or Dr. Dave….unveiled the AliveCor KardiaMobile device …bringing hospital grade heart monitoring to smartphones.    He is a physician and inventor out to improve heath care with remarkably simple devices..

“We’re focused on democratizing care, democratizing medical information.  And I think that is a trend that everybody is embracing with all the wearables.   The Ouras, the Whoops, the Fitbits, etcetera.  And so we fit in, but we’re a little more medical.  And we send our data, in many instances …show it to the patient…but show it to their doctor so if something needs to be done, it can be done quickly.”

The latest, KardiaMobile 6L Max  can perform an at home six lead EKG….quickly and let you share the results with your doctor.

Techstination, your destination for gadgets and gear. I’m Fred Fishkin. He is the author of a new book titled The Return of the Oystercatcher: Saving Birds to Save the Planet. And what ornithologist Scott Weidensaul does…is inject some optimism…telling stories of the recovery of birds and habitats in diverse places around the world. From the Southern Carpathians in Romania to the arctic and the coast of Maine. And technology today plays a key role…

“Because of technology and because of what birders themselves are contributing. If I go out birding, I will keep a checklist on my phone of how many individuals of what species of birds I saw. How long I was out there. How much ground I covered. I can file all that to E-bird at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology.”

Which receives about 100 million of those checklists a year.
