Techstination, your destination for gadgets and gear.  I’m Fred Fishkin.  OnAnOff is a company that has been one of the pioneers in using volume limiting safety technology in headphones for kids.  Now it is coming out with StoryPhones…that will deliver stories and songs to kids in partnership with well known brands.  And says founder Petur Olafsson…it will also allow the recording of stories…by grandparents for instance…

“This is a great medium which you can harvest the stories within your family and bring it to the next generation.”

And the RFID discs that will enable story playback can feature a photo of grandma or grandpa.  Some features are similar to those offered by Tonie Box speakers…but Olafsson says headphones will offer more versatility.  There is more to come and StoryPhones …available in Europe now…will arrive in the U.S. by mid year.  Find more at www.storyphones.com.

Techstination, your destination for gadgets and gear.  I’m Fred Fishkin.  Some of our favorite tech of the past year allowed distanced families to stay connected.  For grandparents who are far from or have been distanced …two new solutions are Kinoo…that offers fun games that can be played together while video conferencing and proactively spurs interaction….and Amazon Glow.  As of this writing you still need an invitation to purchase Amazon Glow…for 250 dollars.  It has a screen and projects onto a flat mat that allows for virtual play or reading together.  I’ve also become a fan of Meta’s Portal Go.  It is great for connecting through a variety of video conferencing services…has a rechargeable battery…that lasts for hours…and the camera can zoom in or out and follow whoever is speaking.  It lists for about 200 dollars but I’ve seen it for less on Amazon.
