Techstination, your destination for gadgets and gear.  I’m Fred Fishkin.   The story of Katherine Johnson, the woman who broke so many barriers as a female,  black NASA mathematician who was the subject of the film Hidden Figures,  has inspired many.  And while she passed away last year at age 101….she had collaborated with two of her daughters on a book for young people…One Step Further… My Story of Math the Moon and a mission. Joyce Hylick, one of those daughters, tell us her mother was always reaching out to spark interest in young people..

“She said the younger you get them and get their curiosity up the better.  If you wait until high school or late high school, they’ve made up their minds whether to do well or not.”

Hylick by the way is also a mathematician…whose career also included time at NASA.  The title again from National Geographic Kids…is One Step Further.. My Story of Math, the Moon and a Mission.

“I came home from work one night, I was in New York making Men in Black III, I was watching Gossip Girl and I was in love with this one dress that Blake Lively was wearing.  I picked up my remote and I went to Shazam it.  Well at that time there was no Shazaming of clothing and I thought, what if there was a Shazam for video?”

The age of smart glasses is just beginning.   So says Paul Travers, CEO of Vuzix...which captured several CES 2021 Innovation awards for the company's Next Generation Smart Glasses.

They are the latest feature rich ANC earbuds from Anker's Soundcore brand.  What sets them apart?   The brand's Adam Weissman joins Techstination's Fred Fishkin to chat.

Techstination, your destination for gadgets and gear.  I’m Fred Fishkin.  iScanner is an app for iOS or Android…designed to turn your mobile device into a full fledged document scanner.  It does a good job detecting edges on a wide range of things…from receipts and notes to all kinds of documents and even handles multiple pages.  You can upload to cloud services like Google Drive or DropBox…or send via email.  But creator Matvei Svetlak says that is strictly optional..

“Our strong point is privacy because we do not use any cloud storage, third party cloud storage.”

iScanner also lets you sign documents on the go.  What you scan can be saved as PDF, JPG or TXT.   You can give the app a try…before you buy.  After that…a long term…rather than a monthly subscription…is the best deal.
